Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate. or equivalent experience. Work setting: Animal hospital. Tasks: Collect samples and perform other laboratory tests. Handle, restrain and care for animals undergoing treatment and surgery. Prevent and treat lameness by hoof trimming. Assist veterinarian before, during and after surgery. Prepare and administer medications and vaccines under direction of veterinarian. Administer treatments as prescribed by veterinarian. Counsel clients on animal health care. Conduct and assist in laboratory research. May perform a variety of office management and clerical duties. Perform routine animal dental procedures and assist veterinarians with animal dentistry. Provide nursing care and rehabilitation therapy for animals. Provide wound and bandage care. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Attention to detail. Fast-paced environment. Walking.
