- Position Summary: Perth County is hiring three Summer Students to work with the Economic Development and Tourism team. These roles will help support projects that promote tourism and support local businesses across the County.
All students will work together on team projects, but each position will focus mainly on one area
- Destination Development – Helping with research, planning, and hands-on projects that improve visitor experiences and local tourism attractions.
- Tourism Marketing – Supporting marketing activities such as creating content, helping with social media, and promoting the region to visitors.
- Economic Development – Assisting with business outreach, collecting information, engaging with the community, and supporting projects that help the local economy grow.
Primary Responsibilities
Destination Development
- Provide support for strategic programming involving agritourism, experiential tourism, cycle tourism, etc.
- Assist with coordination of various tourism events, tours, and initiatives
- Actively provide support for special projects including tourism media campaigns, business support initiatives, seasonal campaigns, etc.
- Liaise with residents, visitors, local operators, and businesses as required
- Distribute marketing materials such as the Tourism Brochure, Farm Gate Map, and Farm Gate Map Signage packages to businesses around Perth County
- Provide marketing support to promote local businesses, destinations, and events
- Provide a range of information on local resources, amenities, activities and events to visitors
- Other responsibilities as assigned
- Ensure that Occupational Health and Safety practices and County of Perth policies and procedures are adhered to; wear any personal protective equipment required to ensure personal safety and report any known hazards and/or incidents in the workplace to the immediate Supervisor
Economic Development
- Provide support for strategic programming involving business retention & expansion, investment attraction and workforce development.
- Assist with coordination of various business events and tours.
- Actively provide support for special projects including, business support initiatives, economic data gathering & analysis, training initiatives, lunch & learns, etc.
- Develop Planted in Perth County business features and People of Perth County features including information gathering, graphic design, and website/social media publishing
- Update and maintain Perth County business directories, contact lists and customer relationship management (CRM) systems
- Liaise with residents, visitors, local operators, and businesses as required
- Provide marketing support to promote local businesses, economic development programs, and events
- Other responsibilities as assigned
- Ensure that Occupational Health and Safety practices and County of Perth policies and procedures are adhered to; wear any personal protective equipment required to ensure personal safety and report any known hazards and/or incidents in the workplace to the immediate Supervisor
Tourism Marketing
- Create engaging content for Perth County Tourism’s social media accounts and website, including photos, videos, graphics, etc.
- Write and blog posts to promote Perth County destinations and experiences
- Monitor analytics and outcomes of social media and online campaigns
- Provide marketing support to promote local businesses, destinations, and events
- Actively provide support for special projects including tourism media campaigns, experiential tourism development, agritourism projects, etc.
- Liaise with residents, visitors, local operators and businesses as required
- Distribute marketing materials such as the Tourism Brochure and Farm Gate Map to businesses around Perth County
- Provide a range of information on local resources, amenities, activities and events to visitors
- Enhance the overall online presence of the Perth County Tourism brand
- Other responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications
- University or College student with interest in marketing, business, hospitality, and tourism
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent customer service/interpersonal skills and professional ability to interact with the public
- Creative thinking skills with ability to come up with new solutions to problems
- Strong technology and digital marketing skills
- Ability to multi-task and establish priorities
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as work collaboratively in a team environment
- Strong organizational skills; detail-oriented, able to coordinate activities and tasks meeting conflicting priorities and timelines
- Expertise with social media platforms including but not limited to Facebook, X, Instagram and YouTube
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and have reliable access to a vehicle
- Shift: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (35 hours per week)
- Occasional work during evenings and weekends may be required
- Hourly Rate: $18.73

To be eligible for summer student employment, applicants must meet the Canada Summer Jobs program requirements
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period;
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
