Department Planning & Development Services Job Type Temporary (Fixed Term) Number of Positions 1 Affiliation CUPE Compensation Range $42.93 - $45.49 Job Summary The Corporate Waste Coordinator supports the Town’s sustainability goals by managing corporate waste programs, ensuring compliance with legislation, and advancing waste‑diversion initiatives. This role analyzes data, reviews development applications, contributes to policy development, and leads education and outreach efforts for staff and the community. The Coordinator also supports daily waste operations, provides expert guidance on emerging regulations, represents the Town on external committees, and delivers presentations to internal stakeholders. Job Duties Include The responsibilities and duties of this position include but are not limited to: Monitor, analyze, and report corporate waste and diversion data. Implement the Corporate Waste Management Plan and facility waste‑reduction strategies. Deliver staff and community waste‑diversion initiatives. Support and implement sustainability and climate‑resilience plans. Research and recommend responses to policies and legislation. Lead project planning, data collection, and reporting. Review development applications for compliance with waste‑management standards. Represent the Town on committees and provide technical guidance to staff, elected officials, and the public. Prepare and present reports to Committees, Council, and Senior Management. Lead and participate in internal/external committees and respond to public and stakeholder inquiries. Coordinate outreach and education with Corporate Communications. Support budgeting, procurement, and grant applications. Track project progress and spending. Qualifications/Skills Degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum five (5) years’ relevant and current work experience, with a focus/specialization in municipal waste management, sustainability, climate change, or a combination of experience deemed equivalent. Demonstrated knowledge of municipal waste management processes, waste diversion practices, and relevant regulations is required. Environmental Professional (EP), Certified Waste Auditor (CWA) and/or other waste management certification an asset. Knowledge of municipal waste‑management practices, relevant legislation, and provincial/federal policy frameworks. Strong communication skills, including clear writing and effective presentations. Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse groups. Advanced problem‑solving, organizational, and time‑management skills. Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams). Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license. What is Offered to Staff Compensation: We offer competitive pay that reflects the responsibilities of the position. Work Hours: This is a non-union position that works a 35-hour work week. The hours of work are Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Contract Duration: This temporary position is for approximately 24 months in duration.
