THE ROLE The Special Events Sales Manager, HISTORY Ottawa will play a pivotal role in launching and establishing HISTORY Ottawa as a premier events destination. This is a unique opportunity to build the business from the ground up, implementing systems and processes that align with national strategy. You will sell and manage Special Events, host site inspections, cultivate client relationships, and work collaboratively with the venue/talent team. The role includes contract negotiation, calendar management, and close collaboration with the venue to ensure flawless event execution. WHAT THIS ROLE WILL DO Lead the opening and business development of HISTORY Ottawa, building a strong foundation for long-term growth. Meet and exceed individual sales goals while developing new business opportunities and maintaining existing client relationships. Conduct proactive sales calls, structured prospecting, and maintain CRM reporting aligned with strategic objectives. Analyze the competitive set and identify opportunities to position HISTORY Ottawa as a preferred venue. Respond to client inquiries promptly (within 24 hours) and manage them through established systems. Build and maintain a comprehensive client database, targeting key companies/organizations within assigned categories. Foster and maintain strong relationships with the Convention & Visitors Bureau, professional organizations, local chambers of commerce, hotels, and vendors. Represent the venue at industry events and actively seek out new hosting opportunities. Ensure optimal venue perception within the community and industry. Maintain accurate financial records and adhere to departmental and organizational processes. Develop marketing collateral and resources to support new business generation. Conduct onsite inspections and generate proposals for prospective clients. Manage calendars, negotiate contracts, and oversee financial reconciliation. Gain a strong understanding of all operational departments to ensure seamless event execution. Collaborate with national leadership, Sales peers, and Premium Sales teams to identify cross-selling opportunities and ensure alignment with overall company strategy Flexibility to work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends, as events require; travel may be necessary. WHAT THIS PERSON WILL BRING 5–10 years’ experience in Events, Hotel, CVB, or Catering Sales. Strong calendar management and organizational skills. Exceptional communication skills and a strategic, collaborative mindset. Proven ability to lead initiatives and build business in a competitive market. Strong understanding of event operations and execution. Established network of event planning contacts is preferred. This is a role local to Ottawa.
