About the Population Health Data Science Lab: The Population Health Data Science Lab at the University of Ottawa is a multidisciplinary research team at the forefront of population health data analysis. Our research focuses on utilizing transdisciplinary data analytics to explore health disparities, health services, and unmet health needs. We are dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge and improving population health outcomes through cutting-edge research. Purpose: Under the supervision of Dr. Xiangfei Meng (Interdisciplinary School of Health Sciences, uOttawa)., the candidate is primarily responsible for the execution of the basic investigative tasks of the research project(s) and contributing to the ongoing management, progress evaluation, and information dissemination relating to the project(s). We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Coordinator with expertise in epidemiology, biostatistics, or population health. The successful candidate will play a major role in leading population research, preparing grant applications, and managing research budgets. This is an excellent opportunity for a dynamic researcher looking to contribute to impactful health research and work in a collaborative academic environment. This is a one-year contract with a possibility of renewal (pending performance). Typical tasks and duties: The generic tasks and duties of a Research Coordinator (NR4) Conduct of Research Project Undertakes day to day research activity within the overall agreed research program by preparing, setting up, conducting and recording the outcomes of data and information gathering activities, experiments and fieldwork. Assists in the planning and execution of research projects, including the development of methodologies and protocols, and completion of the designed projects. Tracks project progress and ensures milestones and objectives are met in a timely and efficient manner. Ensures compliance with University and sponsor regulations. Data capture, maintenance and access Data collection, entry and record keeping while ensuring ethical considerations and quality standards are upheld. Maintains accurate records of interviews, safeguarding the confidentiality of subjects, as necessary (e.g. ensures data security, adheres to data management policies, maintains comprehensive records of project findings, activities and outcomes). Data Analysis Assists with the preparation and writing of key documents including ethics applications, project reports, manuscripts for publication, abstracts, scientific posters and presentations by providing technical content in support of such documents. Project administration Develops, implements and maintains physical and electronic filing systems, especially for data management. (ex : comprehensive records of project activities, findings, and outcomes) Carries out general project administration and communication duties as required by the project (e.g. coordinates communication between project stakeholders, team members, and external partners). Plans and arranges meetings, and other research related dissemination events (e.g. managing the invitations and logistics). Writing up and submitting research results for publication or presentation Collates and organizes, material for research papers, manuscripts, reports, proposals, articles or other documents for publication, presentation or submission to funding agencies, etc. while ensuring clarity, coherence, and compliance with relevant guidelines. Assists investigator and project staff with authoring relevant sections of manuscripts, and facilitate submission of study results and journal articles for publications (ex. handles correspondence during the submission and review process, reviews and edits documents to make necessary revisions to enhance quality and acuracy). Knowledge, skills, education and experience: Undergraduate degree related discipline; graduate degree is an asset (particularly a Master's degree with a health-relevant discipline such as biostatistics, epidemiology, public health, or social sciences such as sociology and psychology). One to two (1 – 2) years’ experience in research positions. Experience in quantitative research methods Experience in qualitative research methods is an asset Excellent written and oral communication skills in bilingual (English and French) Experience in knowledge synthesis methods is an asset Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Experience working with large health datasets is an asset Experience in budgeting and resource management for research projects is highly desirable.
