Job Description: ACCOUNTABILITIES: Serves as the Salvation Army representative to Shelter Guests, Apartment Tenants and Visitors Guest Services Reads HIFIS and Staff to Staff notes at the beginning of each shift Handles the admission, orientation and evaluation of clients’ understanding of rules; ensures ongoing enforcement of policies, which may include client discipline May serve as Receptionist for Shelter answering phones promptly and as necessary Monitor the activities of the clients/residents and maintains availability for personal, practical and morale support; may include providing safe storage of prescribed medications May assist with meal prep, coffee service, clean-up and serving Completes cleaning duties as assigned Participate in scheduled job-related training as required Performs other job-related duties as assigned Provides appropriate assistance to guests when required HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENTAL May carry out inspection/security checks of property and grounds in accordance with policies and procedures Complies with all safety procedures Ensures proper lifting, twisting & reaching techniques are used during job performance Checks intercom & monitor before answering the door. Answers the door with proper precautions. Regularly check that working partner is okay Ocean Crest is committed to environmental leadership in all its operations. Treat all residents with respect and dignity at all times. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS: The successful job applicant will have completed Grade 12 or equivalent and graduated from a related specialized Post-Secondary course of up to six months NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable. PHYSICAL EFFORT/DEXTERITY REQUIRED: The performance of the job requires a moderate amount of computer work, and performing walk abouts. The incumbent is required to lift more than 20 pounds. CONCENTRATION REQUIRED: The performance of the job requires attentive listening (empathy to clients/volunteers/co-workers), and ability to give directions. It also requires monitoring the environment, monitoring security cameras and attentiveness when interacting with clients and recording information. RESPONSIBILITY FOR FINANCIAL RESOURCES: The Incumbent is involved in minor financial responsibility regularly, or on a relief basis and is responsible for the wise use of their department resources. They may be authorized to spend, disburse, or collect small amounts of cash. The incumbent has very little input into the annual budget. RESPONSIBILITY FOR HUMAN RESOURCES: The incumbent works as a team member and independently. They may demonstrate work methods to new employees, volunteers and/or students. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The incumbent’s work environment is the Evergreen Shelter & Apartments The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions: Dirt/dust/ temperature variations Cramped workstation Work-related stress Angry and abusive people Isolation Work schedule affecting lifestyle The incumbent may have little to no travel required. EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS: The incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor harm, injury or illnesses due to: ·Physical attacks by others ·Exposure to infectious diseases ·Exposure to pests and vermin ·Emergency Response situations (fire, bomb threat, etc.) ·Other potentially dangerous situations ·Exposure to companion animals and their effects PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures: ·Universal Precautions ·Follow procedures established by policy and legislation ·Immunizations as outlined. Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements: The successful applicant will hold/have or be willing to obtain within three months of hire, current: Food Safe level 1 certification First Aid Level 1 certification Fluent spoken and written English Valid Driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract (required for some positions) Criminal Records Check (for vulnerable people and children) Good team and interpersonal skills Good computer skills and organizational skills Immunization for Hepatitis B and vaccination against Tuberculosis and Flu are suggested TRAINING TO BE COMPLETED AFTER HIRING: WHIMIS and Universal Precautions Training Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training Online New Hire Health and Safety courses Compensation: The target hiring range for this position is $24.47 to $24.85 with a maximum of $25.23. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
