- Based out of our Electrical Division Edmonton, this position is responsible for the maintenance, operations and security of data networks (both wired and wireless), as well as print and telecommunications related equipment. This includes maintaining, repairing, securing and improving the computer equipment and technical infrastructure of Powell Canada.
- Essential Responsibilities
- Planning and implementation of new services and major infrastructure upgrades.
- Planning, administration and configuration of windows networking platforms and all associated software, including building images.
- 5+ yr. experience or certification with VMWare vSphere 8.0 and Windows server 2012 and beyond.
- Configuration and implementation of telecommunications or data network equipment.
- Using Help Desk generated tickets, demonstrates knowledge in implementing changes to equipment and network folders/shares. Possesses strong understanding of network folder security permissions and Group Policies including Role-Based administration.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills set.
- Responsible for backup platforms and associated concepts, including retention policies.
- Responsible for network print services, including scanning functionality.
- Responsible for inventory documentation and asset management.
- Responsible for hardware maintenance and accessing lifecycle of equipment.
- Responsible for maintaining software licensing and written documentation.
- Provides support to field offices.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Qualifications
- Post-Secondary education in a related Information Technology field is an asset
- Minimum 5-year experience in a related industrial industry is required.
- Possess excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Self-starter, patient, willing to learn and be highly motivated and have a methodical approach to problem solving.
- Provide internal and external customer service to all Powell departments, sites, customers and clients by being professional and courteous
- Ability to perform server builds according to standardized specifications.
- Minimum 5-year administration experience with Active Directory.
- Maintain change control and understanding of change management procedures
- Minimum 5-year working with network topologies, protocols, and platforms and demonstrates logical approach to troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with industry standards regarding Cybersecurity, Posture, Policies and Procedures.
- Responsible and dependable with ability to work without supervision for extended periods of time.
- Ability to diffuse stressful/sensitive situations and handle department and site complaints.
- Maintain network certification and other licenses, as well as ongoing education.
- Must have excellent communications skills, both verbal and written
- Hold a valid driver’s license with clean drivers abstract to provide support to field offices and the various Powell sites in a timely fashion.
- Working Conditions
- Majority of work is performed in office and shop spaces
- Job requires working in varying weather elements, depending on job locations, time of year, heat, cold, rain, snow.
- Must be able to work from all types of ladders (step ladders, "A" frame ladders and all size extension ladders).
- Must always wear personnel protective equipment (i.e., hard hats, safety glasses, safety harnesses as required) and respirators when required.
- This position will require occasional travel and/or overnight travel including areas out of Canada and to remote locations.
- Physical Requirements
- Maintaining body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs
- Bending the body at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction in a repetitive manner.
- Standing, walking, speaking for long periods of time and Typing, punching or applying pressure to an object with fingers and palm.
- Using upper extremities to apply or exert a force up to 50 lbs.
