  • As a Senior Staff Software Engineer on the AI Foundations team, you will shape the architecture and systems that power advanced AI capabilities within a browser environment. You will design and operate infrastructure for prompt engineering, model evaluation, and orchestration of AI services, enabling rapid prototyping and production-quality AI-driven features. This role demands deep technical expertise in backend and infrastructure engineering, as well as hands-on experience integrating LLM outputs into scalable applications. You will collaborate closely with ML engineers, product teams, and infrastructure teams to ensure reliability, observability, and performance across complex systems. The position offers the opportunity to influence AI product innovation, mentor other engineers, and contribute to high-impact projects in a fast-paced, remote-first environment.

Accountabilities

  • Own and evolve AI Foundations systems that integrate LLM outputs into production product experiences.
  • Build and operate evaluation and prompt engineering infrastructure to streamline experimentation and deployment.
  • Orchestrate LLM usage across services, optimizing for reliability, streaming, error handling, and cost efficiency.
  • Collaborate with product and infrastructure teams to define requirements, SLAs, and APIs for AI features.
  • Develop workflows, documentation, and tooling to enable teams to ship AI-driven features confidently.
  • Lead high-impact engineering projects, mentor engineers, and enhance system reliability and observability.
  • Manage planning and on-call responsibilities for AI Foundations services as needed.
  • 8+ years of experience building and leading high-quality software systems, particularly in backend or infrastructure engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with LLMs and integrating AI outputs into production systems.
  • Proven ability to design, ship, and operate large-scale, reliable systems that support rapid iteration.
  • Strong technical leadership and mentoring experience, with excellent code review and communication skills.
  • Experience with complex codebases and improving system maintainability, debuggability, and understandability.
  • Pragmatic problem-solving mindset and ability to work in fast-paced, startup-like environments.
  • Must have 4+ hours overlap with North American Eastern Time Zone team members.
  • Competitive total compensation ($250,000 – $310,000 USD annual range, including salary, equity, and benefits).
