- Shape Something Different — As a Senior Environmental Liability Specialist, you’ll lead complex liability programs and strengthen the strategies that help clients understand, plan for, and reduce long‑term environmental obligations across broad and dynamic asset portfolios.
- Your Impact
- Lead environmental liability programs across large, complex oil & gas portfolios, bringing clarity, defensibility, and confidence to clients navigating regulatory and financial obligations.
- Develop risk‑based liability strategies and advanced cost estimates that strengthen long‑term planning, ARO/Provision reporting, and compliance within the AER Liability Management Framework.
- Oversee integrated teams through site investigations, remedial options analyses, and multi‑phase project execution, ensuring alignment with client goals and WSP’s technical excellence standards.
- Evaluate baseline, PSI, and DSI data to determine regulatory status and inform portfolio‑level liability pathways under Alberta’s Contaminated Lands Framework.
- Review and elevate technical deliverables — including SSLAs, cost models, and regulatory submissions — ensuring accuracy, defensibility, and consistency across diverse project conditions.
- Engage directly with clients to translate complex findings into clear, actionable recommendations that support strategic decisions and responsible asset management.
- Lead due diligence for acquisitions and divestments, assessing liability magnitude, retirement obligations, and risk exposure across broad asset inventories.
- Mentor junior and intermediate practitioners while collaborating with regional and national experts to advance tools, models, and best practices that drive innovation and sustainable redevelopment.
- The Skills That Set You Apart
- 15+ years of progressive experience in environmental assessment, contaminated sites work, and environmental liability management, including both office‑based analysis and field exposure.
- Deep expertise preparing Site‑Specific Liability Assessments (SSLA) and applying the AER Liability Management Framework across diverse oil & gas asset classes.
- Advanced capability in cost estimating and ARO/Provision modeling, producing defensible, auditable estimates that support financial reporting and long‑range planning.
- Proven ability to lead technical due diligence for acquisitions and divestments, distilling complex environmental and operational datasets into clear liability insights.
- A degree in environmental science, earth sciences, engineering, or a related discipline from a recognized post‑secondary institution.
- High proficiency with MS Excel, including the ability to manage large datasets and build transparent, defensible models.
- Professional registration or eligibility (e.g., APEGA, EGBC, AIA, ASET) with a commitment to ongoing development and technical excellence.
- A strategic, solution‑oriented mindset capable of integrating technical, regulatory, and financial factors to guide decisions across large, complex portfolios.

- AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $115,700 - $155,400
- MB & ON: $$105,500 - $147,400
- NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $104,500 - $140,700
