Are you an expert Data Architect ready to oversee a massive modernization initiative? Our Edmonton client is seeking a visionary architect to lead the design and implementation of their cutting-edge Azure Data Management Platform on an initial 4 month contract. This is a critical role where you will integrate complex data from diverse enterprise systems (including ServiceNow and geospatial) and build the foundation for advanced analytics, machine learning, and automation using Azure Databricks, Synapse, and Data Factory. If you thrive on technical leadership and want to shape a secure, scalable, and future-ready data ecosystem, this is the challenge for you.
The successful candidate will primarily work remotely but must be available for on-site meetings as required. These meetings may involve strategic, analytical, or technical discussions and may include engagement with team members, senior managers, directors, executive directors, or business clients. Meetings may occur up to 3–4 times per fiscal month, but the actual frequency will depend on the specific initiative and will be determined on an on-demand basis. Responsibilities
• Design and implement scalable, secure data architecture on the Microsoft Azure platform.
• Lead the development of ingestion and transformation pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Databricks, and Synapse.
• Architect and manage enterprise data lakes using Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2.
• Integrate complex data from diverse sources, including ServiceNow and geospatial systems.
• Develop robust data models and semantic layers to support BI and advanced analytics.
• Design and manage secure, high-performance data access APIs using Azure API Management.
• Implement and enforce data governance, security, and regulatory compliance standards.
Qualifications
• A college or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience as a Data Architect designing large-scale, strategic data models in an enterprise environment.
• 6+ years of experience developing enterprise-grade ETL/ELT workflows using Python (PySpark) and SQL.
• 5+ years of experience designing solutions with core Azure services, including Storage, Synapse, networking, and authentication.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience managing Databricks workspaces, clusters, and building scalable data pipelines.
