  • Role Overview
  • Reporting to the Manager, Exploration – Commercial and working within the broader Exploration Commercial and Evaluations team, the Senior Analyst will take a growing role in acquisition, divestment, farmout, and investment transactions; supporting evaluations and strategy; and creating and collecting value through Exploration’s project, equity investment, and royalty portfolios.
  • The Senior Analyst will help lead techno-economic valuations and integrate SME contributions to advise investment and strategic decisions. They will also work closely with Exploration Directors and Country Managers on a broad range of internal and external initiatives, as well as lead capital-market and industry research, including preparing and presenting outputs to Senior Management.
  • The successful candidate will be a dedicated teammate with an open mindset and a high degree of analytical and critical thinking skills who is motivated to take ownership of workflows, collaborate with stakeholders across fields and jurisdictions, and focus time and resources on initiatives that build the most value.

  • Key Responsibilities
  • Be a courageous safety leader and adhere to and champion the Teck Way in the application of safety, social, and environmental best practices in line with Teck’s rules and procedures
  • Prioritize opportunities and streamline workflows by focusing on the biggest value and risk drivers and assessing sensitivities to critical assumptions.
  • Assume a growing role in advancing transactions from initial negotiations through term sheets, due diligence, and final agreements.
  • Support in-depth, multidisciplinary, geoscientific data analysis and apply techno-economic modelling to assess projects based on quality and upside potential, as well as define economic discovery guidelines for Exploration.
  • Guide strategy through identifying, collecting, maintaining, and analyzing global data on projects, market/transaction comparables, competitor activity, and prevailing market conditions.
  • Capture value as part of divestments, sales, and farmouts by supporting marketing and sales processes.
  • Synthesize outputs from multiple contributors and sources to make and support actionable recommendations.
  • Support Teck’s “Partner of Choice” approach and philosophy concerning partnering, joint ventures, and transactions, including relationship management and market positioning.
  • Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, Business, or Finance, and 8-12 years of related work experience directly related to exploration and mining and commercial activities.
  • MBA or a CFA is considered an asset.
  • Understanding of mining methods and mineral processing.
  • Practical experience integrating multiple approaches to project and company valuations.
  • Validated experience working with financial and geological models to identify the relationships between key value drivers such as deposit geometry, ore distribution, geo-metallurgy, site-specific logistic/cost considerations, Capex and Opex, project timelines, and payback periods.
  • Experience supporting transactions, working closely with legal and accounting advisors.
  • Capital market literacy, including public markets, capital structures, and valuation multiples, with the capability to review and analyze press releases, regulatory filings, technical studies, investor presentations, and analyst reports.
  • Comfortable using third-party databases such as Capital IQ to query and aggregate mining industry data to inform research and valuations.
