- Summary
- The Sanitation Process Engineer has a key role within the SWAT Team – Sanitation, responsible for driving sanitation excellence, process optimization, and continuous improvement across multiple food manufacturing sites in North America.
- As part of the SWAT team, this role will work on multiple cross-functional projects spanning Manufacturing, Sanitation, Quality, and Maintenance & Reliability. The engineer will collect and analyze data using structured methodologies (DMAIC), lead sanitation-related process improvements, support new equipment commissioning, and foster a continuous improvement mindset within operations.
- This is a hands-on, execution-focused role designed for individuals with strong analytical thinking, leadership potential, and a passion for solving real-world problems in food manufacturing.

- Primary Responsibilities
- Assess, analyze, and optimize sanitation processes to improve efficiency, compliance, and effectiveness.
- Work on cross-functional projects focused on operational improvements, leveraging Lean, Six Sigma, and DMAIC methodologies.
- Implement sustainable improvements in sanitation and food safety, ensuring alignment with USDA, FDA, CFIA, GMP, HACCP, and SQF standards.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and lean manufacturing within sanitation and operations teams.
- Collect and analyze operational and sanitation data to identify inefficiencies and drive measurable improvements.
- Support commissioning activities for new equipment and manufacturing lines, ensuring sanitation best practices are integrated.
- Utilize Microsoft Excel (advanced functions, VBA), Power BI, and other analytical tools to track performance and identify trends.
- Work closely with a multidisciplinary team to plan and execute sanitation and operational improvement projects.
- Support troubleshooting of manufacturing and sanitation challenges, driving projects to completion.
- Lead and influence teams through change, ensuring best practices are adopted and sustained.
- Maintain a strong presence on the production floor, working alongside sanitation, quality, and operations teams to implement solutions.
- Supporting sanitation teams during cleaning processes, customer & third-party audits.
- Develop and deliver train-the-trainer programs, coaching frontline workers and supervisors on sanitation excellence.
- Ensure a safe working environment is maintained at all times.
- Partner with Operations, Sanitation, Quality, Business Transformation (Op-Ex), Engineering, Talent & Development, and Maintenance teams to align goals and execute with precision.
- Work in automation and development of prototype applications to support sanitation and operational efficiency.
- Lead training sessions for various departments, ensuring process knowledge is effectively shared across teams.
- Weekend work is required to support sanitation operations.
- Travel to multiple locations based on business needs.
- Be flexible in adapting to different shifts and schedules as required by project needs.
- Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to support team and organizational goals.
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, or related field)
- Certifications in Lean Six Sigma are an asset.
- Experience in food manufacturing and Sanitation is preferred but not required.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use data-driven decision-making.
- Experience with Excel (advanced functions, VBA) and Microsoft Power Platform (Power BI, PowerApps, Power Automate) is an asset.
- Must have strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to lead sanitation process improvements and influence cross-functional teams.
- Strong communication & influential skills to gain buy-in from Team Members and leadership
- Hands-on leadership style—not just working from a desk but actively engaged on the floor.
- Experience or interest in train-the-trainer programs to upskill sanitation teams.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills to engage and align cross-functional teams.
- Must be high energy, flexible, and passionate about getting things done.
- Valid driver’s license required for travel to multiple sites.
