General Description
• The E5 – Engineer is a professional engineer or geoscientist who applies engineering knowledge to provide innovative engineering, estimating, planning, and quality management services for medium to high complexity projects and/or operations safely, with quality, within budget, and on time.

Responsibilities
• This role requires strong technical background and experience in transmission system protection and control, including practical and theoretical knowledge in power system parameters and protection systems.
• The role is focused on providing commissioning acceptance services and advanced level technical support for the P&C systems on the transmission system and requires interaction with a wide variety of business units within company (Integrated Planning, Grid Operations, Field Operations, Generation, Distribution, and Asset Management).

• The commissioning work is focused on the acceptance of commissioned P&C Equipment in Transmission and Distribution substations with operating voltages from 12kV to 500kV, as well as the processes and standards for testing and commissioning that equipment. Technical services include power system disturbance analysis, P&C system integration testing, wide area system monitoring, and real-time operations support.
• Provide support for Communications, Protection and Control (CPC) field technologists and perform field reviews for P&C equipment installations and modifications. Accept and seal commissioning documentation. Author and review P&C commissioning standards.
• Provide support to project teams where P&C complexity exists as a P&C subject matter expert.
• Investigate, analyze, and recommend action for abnormal system conditions and major system disturbances.
• Support real-time operation of the power system by conducting and interpreting technical studies and data, formulating strategies and options, and determining and documenting operating procedures.
• Coordinate special testing requirements and operating procedures on the integrated system.
• Prepare contingency plans and short term operating plans for abnormal conditions.
• Support Communications, Protection and Control (CPC) field technologists with subject matter expertise, relay spares, and technical issues.
• Identify, develop and recommend P&C maintenance standard modifications.
• Participate on multi-disciplinary internal committees as a seasoned professional to address technical problems.
Qualifications
Must haves:
A minimum ten (10) years of experience in a relevant engineering field or equivalent.
A minimum four (4) years of P&C Commissioning experience
Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with Engineers & Geoscientists BC or with another jurisdiction and eligible for registration as such with Engineers & Geoscientists
Knowledge of P&C testing and commissioning best practices, experience working in a field environment, and experience in fault analysis and investigations is required.
Demonstrated technical writing and presentation skills, and strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills are required.
