- Job Description
- Osler has temporary part-time Respiratory Therapy Clinical Extern positions available in the Respiratory Therapy Department at both our Brampton Civic Hospital and Etobicoke General Hospital sites. Accountabilities
- Practices under the direct and/or indirect supervision of the Manager, Respiratory Therapy, team leaders, educator and respiratory therapy professionals and in a manner consistent with organizational policies and professional standards while taking into account CRTO guidance for unregulated health care providers
- Works with respiratory therapy staff to ensure that they have the knowledge, skills and judgment needed to perform all requested actions
- Circuit, check and test ventilator circuits/assemble respiratory therapy equipment
- Check inventory and record stock levels, rotate equipment
- Data collection as per direction of Respiratory Therapy team leaders
- Assists with area, room safety by ensuring the environment is clean and tidy and free of hazards
- Requests assistance with assigned duties whenever in need
- Demonstrates excellent problem-solving, decision making and critical thinking skills
- Demonstrates excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Participates as a team member/Professional in all interactions
- Qualifications
- Respiratory therapy students enrolled in their first, second or third year of an accredited respiratory therapy program
- Demonstrated evidence of excellent academic standing
- Current certificate in Basic Cardiac Life Support required
- Completion of mandatory/required certifications provided via corporate orientation, including extern orientation, and as defined by unit (e.g., mask fit test, WHIMS, AODA, IPAC)
- Demonstrated infection prevention and control practices
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills
- Flexibility, willingness and ability to work between multiple Osler sites as required

- Additional Information
- Hours: Currently days/evenings/nights, including weekends and statutory holidays (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)
- Note: Clinical externs will be hired on contract, during which the clinical extern will work part time hours (minimum 15 to 24 hours per week) to a maximum of full‐time hours (37.5 hours per week)
