  • Job Description
  • Join our team as a Quality Inspector where you’ll play a key role in ensuring products meet the highest standards through hands-on inspections, audits, and compliance reviews. You’ll work with complex assemblies, detailed specifications, and industry-recognized quality systems while collaborating with internal teams and suppliers. This is an opportunity to build your expertise in ISO compliance, audits, and quality control processes while supporting continuous improvement across the organization.
  • Inspects simple to complex units, assemblies, piece parts and material using detailed procedures. Understands dimensioning and measurement tolerancing for mechanical and assembly techniques. May be required to use simple test equipment on incoming goods.
  • Reviews all documents related to each inspection; determines compliance of component parts of mechanical products to dimensional requirements of project work statement / drawings / specifications; accurately records all inspection results; communicates with management and internal/external customers on quality matters.
  • Collects, analyzes and interprets statistical quality control data; may perform mathematical calculations.
  • With limited supervision participates in product/material/Core Process Audits in assembly, receiving, shipping, stores and, if required, at vendor sites.
  • Supports Quality Systems to ensure compliance with ISO; completes training programs and certification for new techniques and practices; assists in training of junior Inspectors; and perform other related duties as required.
  • With direction, conducts compliance audits specifically aimed at Shelf-life, ESD and calibration compliance. Participates in product/material/process audits in Production, Receiving, Shipping, Stores, and at Supplier Sites (if required).
  • Coordinates MRB’s and is responsible for the creation, administration, and closure of MRBs. This includes providing information and recommendations to the MRB Chair, as well as transacting/coordinating movement of MRB materials according to the stated MRB disposition.
  • Responsible for inventory accuracy of MRB.
  • Responsible for determination and disposition of material that shall be returned-to-vendor (RTV), precluding the need for a formal MRB.
  • Physically scraps material, including the disassembly and removal of unique identifiers when required. May act as witness during the destruction process.
  • Completes training programs and certification for new techniques and practices. Participates in cross training within the quality department and may be required to train peers in support of business continuity.
  • Qualifications
  • Education and Experience
  • Equivalent to a Grade 12 level of education at an Ontario secondary school.
  • Over 3 years up to and including 4 years of related experience including internal audit training in an electronics manufacturing environment. Thorough understanding of Quality Systems. Good computer skills.
  • Complexity
  • Work is structured and well documented; some tasks are repetitive. Uses judgement in evaluating component/product compliance; analyzes and interprets output of inspection and attempts to provide explanation for rejection. Requirement to solve problems related to quality issues, with some input from more senior QC Inspectors; interrogation expected to understand and resolve problems. May request assistance from senior resources.
  • Provides information and recommendations to Material Review Board (MRB).
  • Autonomously determines if material shall be returned-to-vendor (RTV) and completes the material transactions accordingly, interfacing with Quality, Engineering, SCM and Production as required.
  • Initiative and Accountability
  • Work is assigned through an electronic queue system or supervisor with priority assigned (first in/first out). May order tasks within assignment. Work is reviewed by metrics and monitored regularly by senior resources.
  • Uses initiative to validate defect decision with others; juggle workload to meet deadlines. Positively impacts internal/external customers with the timely and accurate completion of e.g. inspection work; contributes to product reliability.
  • Participates on Quality teams; contributes ideas to improve processes.
  • Participates in continuous improvement initiatives to improve the quality of products and services across Manufacturing Operations.
  • Communication and Giving Guidance
  • Participates in morning meetings to review quality data when required
  • Communicates effectively (written/verbal) with team to discuss work and resolve problems; internal customers to understand projects/programs and may present information; vendors and external customers; interdepartmental continuous improvement teams.
  • Discussions may require influencing to ensure Quality standards are followed.
  • Provides training to junior resources and technical guidance based on experience.
  • Keeps team members informed of progress and situation requiring attention of others. Assists other team members to achieve assigned tasks.
  • It is a requirement that General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada be registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods program and that all of its workforce be security assessed. Successful applicants must meet all applicable security requirements, including but not limited to the ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian government security clearance.   • Effort and Working Environment
  • Minimal physical effort. Work performed sitting/standing (50/50). Move about workplace to perform tasks. Somewhat repetitive hand/finger movements. Some lifting of low weight items, with limited lifting of items with some weight.
  • Significant visual attention and concentration for moderate periods of time to read, reason, compare and complete high precision work with eye/hand coordination component e.g. microscope, fine electronic assembly.
