Empirical Consulting Solutions has been engaged to conduct a search for an Entry-Level Purchasing Agent for one of North America’s largest designer, manufacturer and supplier of custom systems for the food industry located in Philadelphia, PA.
The Entry-Level Purchasing Agent will provide administrative and operational support to the procurement team, assisting with the acquisition of goods, materials, and services. This role is crucial for maintaining accurate records, processing routine orders, and ensuring the smooth flow of information.
The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business administration or a related field. Candidates without a degree and two years of purchasing experience are encouraged to apply too.
This role requires regular communication with vendors on the phone and via email. To be successful in this role you must have a customer-service mentality and be confident and comfortable communicating on the phone.

Entry-Level Purchasing Agent Responsibilities:
- Process and track purchase requisitions and purchase orders (POs) in the ERP system.
- Communicate with suppliers regarding order status, delivery schedules, and basic inquiries.
- Maintain accurate supplier and material master data, including pricing and lead times.
- Expedite urgent orders and follow up on delayed shipments.
- Assist with data collection and basic reporting on procurement activities.
- Support the resolution of invoice discrepancies and delivery issues.
- File and organize procurement documentation, contracts, and supplier information.
Entry-Level Purchasing Agent Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business administration preferred, or a related field; or 2 years of equivalent practical experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Amazing written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to learn new systems quickly (e.g., ERP systems).
