- Summary
- We are seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to oversee and manage payroll operations across Canada and the U.S., including both employees and contractors. Reporting to the Director, Finance, the ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of multi-jurisdictional payroll, compliance, and reporting, as well as proven experience leading the implementation of a new HRIS or payroll system.
- This role plays a critical part in ensuring payroll accuracy, efficiency, and compliance, while supporting our continued growth and system modernization.
- Primary Objectives of the Role
- Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for approximately 300 employees and contractors across Canada and the U.S., ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with local regulations.
- Lead the implementation and integration of a new HRIS/payroll system, including data migration, process redesign, testing, and training.
- Manage payroll and payment processes for contractors in multiple countries, ensuring proper documentation, currency considerations, and adherence to tax and compliance requirements.
- Oversee payroll-related reporting, reconciliations, and audits; ensure compliance with government regulations (CRA, IRS, state/provincial laws).
- Collaborate with Finance and HR teams to streamline payroll, benefits, and time-tracking processes.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and employee/contractor data in the HRIS.
- Monitor and interpret changes in payroll legislation; update policies and procedures as needed.
- Prepare and analyze payroll metrics and reports for leadership.
- Support compensation and year-end reporting (T4s, W-2s, ROEs, 1099s, etc.).
- Supervise and develop payroll staff, fostering accuracy, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Minimum 5–7 years of progressive payroll experience, including multi-country (Canada & U.S.) payroll management.
- Demonstrated success in leading or playing a key role in HRIS/payroll system implementation or upgrades.
- Strong knowledge of payroll compliance, tax laws, and reporting for both employees and contractors across multiple jurisdictions.
- Experience supporting hourly, salaried, and contract workforces across multiple locations.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Advanced proficiency with payroll and HRIS systems;
- PCP or CPM designation (Canada) preferred.
- Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, or business administration
- Work Environment and Requirements
- Ability to attend the Oakville, Ontario office on a regular (2-3 times per weeks) will be given preference
- Open concept office environment.
- Able to lift up to 25 pounds as needed
