- Department Recreation & Culture Affiliation Non-Union Compensation Range $22.97 - $24.97 Job Summary Reporting to the Aquatics Coordinators, the Lifeguard/Swim Instructor is accountable for the supervision of swimming activities at Town of Ajax aquatic facilities and for the instruction of learn to swim programs for participants of all ages and abilities. Job Duties Include The following responsibilities and duties of this position include but are not limited to: Monitors the pool environment according to the zone layout and address/report safety concerns. Prevents accidents through the enforcement of pool rules and regulations. Educates the public on issues of aquatic safety. Responds to emergencies in a coordinated and professional manner. Administers First Aid in accordance with highest level of certification and completes Incident/Accident Reports. Assists with pool setup and closing. Prepares lesson outlines and/or core plans for all swimming programs on a weekly basis. Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with the Lifesaving Society and Town of Ajax program standards. Prepares and submits Progress Cards in accordance with Town of Ajax guidelines. Records candidates’ performance on Lifesaving Society test sheets and submits completed forms at the conclusion of the session. Interacts with program participants in a manner that reflects the Principles of Healthy Child Development (High 5) course curriculum. Listens to feedback from customers and responds in a professional and knowledgeable manner Qualifications/Skills Minimum 15 years of age or older. Valid Standard First Aid with CPR C certification. Lifesaving Society (LSS) National Lifeguard Award that is current within 2 years. LSS Swim Instructor Certification. Knowledge related to the delivery of aquatic programs and services. Excellent communication skills required. Able to provide a clear Criminal Reference / Vulnerable Sector check that is current (completed in the last six months), upon being hired. Must be obtained within 6 Months of Employment LSS Lifesaving Instructor Certification. High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development. What is offered to Staff: Compensation: We offer competitive pay that reflects the responsibilities of the position. Hours of Work: This is a part time non-union position that works up to 24 hours per week. The hours of work are Monday to Sunday, various shifts between 6:30 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. Hours will be scheduled in conjunction with staff availability.
