Job Description

  • The Operator, Security Operations Centre, reporting to the Manager of Security & Fire Life Safety, plays a pivotal role in managing and coordinating security operations from a central hub. They monitor security systems, receive and respond to emergency calls, and dispatch security personnel to incidents. They ensure effective communication between the security team and hospital staff, prioritize responses based on urgency, and maintain detailed records of incidents to support overall safety and hospital protocols. This position is ideal or someone with strong multitasking abilities, excellent communication skills, and a calm, professional demeanour in high-pressure situations. This role provides experience in emergency response, surveillance management, and cross-department coordination, making this an impactful position for those passionate about safety and dedicated to making a difference.

Position Summary

  • Serve as the central point of contact for security operations within the hospital.
  • Oversee surveillance systems, including cameras, alarms, and access controls, to detect and respond to security risks.
  • Respond to emergency calls, assess priority levels, and dispatch security personnel accordingly.
  • Act as a communication hub between security teams, hospital staff, and emergency services to ensure effective incident coordination.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, actions taken, and reports for compliance, audits, and investigations.
  • Troubleshoot basic system issues and escalate critical system failures or high-level incidents to the appropriate parties.
  • Provide guidance to security staff on response prioritization and policy compliance.
  • Work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to ensure 24/7 coverage for safety operations.
  • Notification to authorities, such as Police or Fire, in case of emergencies.
  • Utilization of different communication technologies (two-way radios, telephones, intercoms, etc.)
  • Follow escalation process to inform site leadership of high-level incidents.
  • Maintain awareness of security policies and procedures.
  • Process and inform external security vendor of all extra coverage requests and ensure adequate follow up.

Key Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess the following

  • Secondary school diploma
  • 911 & Emergency Services Communications or similar 1–2-year Community College
  • Emergency Telecommunications Certification (preferred)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of maintaining multiple communication channels
  • Knowledge and understanding of security systems, such as surveillance cameras, access control, and communication technologies (two-way radios, telephones, intercom systems, etc.)
  • Demonstrate a high level of focus and attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficient in multi-tasking
  • Ability to exercise quick and sound judgement to assess situations, prioritize responses, and dispatch appropriate personnel during emergencies
  • Ability to maintain composure and focus during high-stress situations, particularly emergencies where prompt and efficient responses are essential
  • Exercise professionalism when interacting with patients, visitors, staff, and professional staff, ensuring a positive environment
  • Ability to work effectively with security teams, hospital staff, emergency services, etc., to coordinate responses and maintain a safe environment
  • Capability to work autonomously with minimal supervision is an asset.
  • Self-motivation, proactiveness, and adeptness at managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to make prompt decisions and handle clients tactfully.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft 365 applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
