About

🚀 Role Overview I currently run a construction company in Canada and am in the very early stages of building a construction technology startup, and need a reliable, creative visual design partner for ongoing work. This is a long-term opportunity for someone who wants consistent, flexible work, interesting projects, and the chance to grow with a real-world startup. If you check out my profile you can see that I have been on this platform for a VERY long time (and was even on it when it was still Elance before being renamed Upwork), have reasonablu good ratings from other freelancers, a track record of working with the same freelancers for multiple projects over long periods of time, and have a high hiring percentage rate. In short, I try to start real businesses, and I like to stay loyal to people to grow over the long term. This is NOT a one-off project. I'm looking for a partner to grow with the business over months and years, starting with smaller tasks and scaling up as our projects and budget increase. So this contract is ended to stay open for a long time and not just send in one deliverable and close it out to gain feedback. The Reality: We're in the very early part of the testing phase—trying different marketing approaches, social channels, and messaging. I'm funding this out of pocket, so I need someone comfortable with iteration, pivots, and a "good enough to test" mindset rather than "pixel-perfect from day one." Once we find what clicks, we'll scale up and invest more together. It will be a lot of small starts on some items, just to them drop 4 out of 5 ideas to pursue The One. 🎨 What You'll Be Working On Primary Responsibilities (Starting Focus): Social Media Graphics: LinkedIn posts, Instagram stories, YouTube thumbnails. Brand Consistency: Applying established brand guidelines across all materials. Template Creation: Reusable templates for presentations, social posts, and documents in Canva/Figma. Website Graphics: Icons, buttons, hero images, section graphics. Simple Video Editing: Cutting raw footage, adding text overlays, basic transitions. Marketing Materials: One-pagers, email graphics, simple infographics. Secondary Responsibilities (As we grow): Basic Motion Graphics: Animated text and simple transitions for social media. Presentation Design: Polishing pitch decks and client presentations. Asset Organization: Maintaining all brand files in our shared Google Drive. ✅ What I'm Looking For (Must-Haves) Strong Design Fundamentals: You have a great eye for composition, color, and typography. Brand Systems Thinking: You can keep visuals consistent across all platforms. Self-Directed Creativity: You can take rough direction and deliver polished results without micromanagement. Resourceful & Scrappy: You're comfortable using AI tools, adapting inspiration (ethically), and finding creative solutions within constraints. Fast Turnaround: You can deliver on most projects within 24-48 hours. Proactive Communication: You ask questions early and suggest improvements. Template Mindset: You think in reusable systems, not just one-off designs. 🛠️ Technical Requirements Proficient in Canva (primary) and/or Figma. Basic video editing skills (CapCut, Premiere, or similar). Comfortable using Google Drive for file organization. Reliable internet and ability to join occasional video calls (EST/PST). ⭐ Bonus Points For Experience with construction, real estate, or B2B industries. An understanding of modern startup/tech aesthetics. Knowledge of social media formats and best practices. Experience using AI tools (Gemini, ChatGPT, Midjourney, etc.) to work faster. You're smart about inspiration—you can adapt what works for others. What Makes This Different ❌ I'm NOT looking for: Designers who only do exactly what's asked, with no creative input. Freelancers who disappear for days without communication. Someone who spends 10 hours making one thing perfect while leaving 5 other tasks untouched. ✅ I AM looking for: A creative partner who brings their own ideas to the table. Someone who knows when "70% polished" across everything is better than "100% polished" on one thing. A resourceful problem-solver who can work efficiently within a limited budget. Someone who uses AI, remixes inspiration, and finds smart shortcuts to deliver great results. 📋 Work Details Hours: ~10-20 hours/month (variable and will grow over time). Schedule: Flexible & asynchronous, with a 24-48hr turnaround on most tasks. Contract: Ongoing, long-term collaboration. Budget: Starting at $5-7/hour, with opportunities for increases as we grow. 💡 Why Work With Me? Stability: Long-term, ongoing work, not one-off gigs. Flexibility: Flexible hours and a casual, collaborative environment. Impact: Interesting projects where you can see your work make a real difference. Growth: An opportunity to grow your role, skills, and rate as the business scales.
