  • Job Description
  • As Manager, Private Credit Valuations, you will play a pivotal role in independent oversight, governance, and execution of valuations across CPP Investments’ Private Credit portfolio. You will be responsible for the day-to-day valuation processes, providing analytical insights, enhancing control frameworks, and ensuring adherence to best practices and standards. The role will require close collaboration with internal stakeholders across investment, finance, and risk functions, as well as with external valuation agents and auditors.
  • Team Summary
  • Valuations are central to CPP Investments’ decision-making process, informing key aspects of fund management such as asset allocation, performance measurement, risk management, and financial reporting. The Valuations Group oversees valuation practices across all asset classes and geographies to ensure consistency, objectivity, and robustness in how the fair value of our investments is determined.

Accountabilities

  • Lead and execute key elements of the valuation cycle for the Private Credit portfolio, ensuring high-quality, accurate, and timely valuation outcomes.
  • Perform and review complex credit valuation analyses, including modeling and calibration of instruments across leveraged loans, direct lending, mezzanine, structured credit, and distressed debt.
  • Develop and enhance valuation methodologies, analytics, and controls to align with evolving market standards and internal governance requirements.
  • Manage the external valuation process, including coordination with third-party valuation providers and external auditors, ensuring consistency and transparency.
  • Collaborate closely with global investment teams to understand deal structures, performance drivers, and market context while maintaining independent valuation judgment.
  • Prepare valuation reports and insights for communication to Valuation Committees, Board Committees, senior management, and other internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor global credit markets and proactively assess the valuation impact of market movements, macro events, and changing credit conditions.
  • Champion process improvements by identifying automation opportunities, enhancing portfolio-level analytics, and contributing to scalable, agile valuation processes.
  • Mentor and guide junior team members, fostering a culture of analytical rigor, professional development, and collaboration within the team.
  • Demonstrate a curiosity and passion for emerging technologies (Gen AI) to enhance valuation processes and drive operational efficiency.
  • Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related discipline; postgraduate degree preferred.
  • Professional designation such as CBV, CFA, CPA, or FRM is considered an asset.
  • Minimum 6–8 years of relevant experience in valuation, credit analysis, or related fields within professional services, investment management, banking, or pension fund environments.
  • Proven expertise in Private Credit valuations, including strong understanding of credit instruments, market dynamics, and valuation methodologies.
  • Solid understanding of IFRS fair value measurement principles and related reporting requirements.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and financial modelling; experience with data analytics tools such as Python, SQL, or Tableau is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex valuation issues clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong project management, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to operate effectively under tight timelines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrates sound business judgment and a proactive, analytical mindset.
  • Collaborative leader who fosters partnership and cross-functional cooperation.
  • High level of attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to quality.
