Introduction
This role is key in shaping B2Gold’s approach to responsible mining, mine closure, permitting, and environmental risk management, while ensuring transparent engagement with regulators, investors, and communities.
Location
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of B2Gold’s corporate environmental and permitting policies, standards, and guidance;
- Provide strategic advice to senior management and the Board on environmental and permitting risks, performance, and opportunities;
- Monitor emerging regulations, ESG frameworks, and industry best practices; integrate them into corporate guidance and risk oversight;
- Contribute to cross-functional initiatives on climate change, biodiversity, tailings stewardship, and responsible mine closure;
Permitting & Compliance Governance:
- Oversee corporate permitting strategies for new projects, expansions, and acquisitions, ensuring timely and effective engagement with regulators and stakeholders;
- Monitor environmental compliance across operations through audits, assurance reviews, and Board-level reporting;
- Provide subject matter expertise on mine closure, rehabilitation, and asset retirement obligations (AROs), including corporate oversight of annual cost estimates;
- Serve as a corporate resource to site teams on permitting, compliance, and risk management, ensuring alignment with corporate standards;
- Guide site leadership in the development of environmental programs and management systems;
- Support tailings, water, and biodiversity management by reviewing and advising on strategies and plans;
Reporting & External Engagement:
- Prepare Board and senior management updates on environmental and permitting performance;
- Lead the environmental content of B2Gold’s Responsible Mining Report and other ESG disclosures (GRI, SASB, TCFD, TNFD, WGC RGMP, MAC TSM);
- Conduct environmental due diligence for acquisitions and joint ventures;
- Engage with regulators, industry associations, investors, and other stakeholders on corporate environmental and permitting matters; and,
- Perform other duties as required in support of Company objectives.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related technical field from an accredited university or college;
- Minimum 10 years’ progressive experience in environmental management and permitting in the mining or natural resources sector, including 3–5 years in a corporate or regional oversight role.
- Proven expertise in permitting processes across multiple jurisdictions and in mine closure, rehabilitation, and Asset Retirement Obligation management;
- Familiarity with international ESG standards and frameworks (e.g., ICMM, GRI, SASB, WGC RGMP, TCFD, TNFD); and
- Strong communication, analytical, and leadership skills, with ability to influence across senior levels of the business.
Additional Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working in international and challenging jurisdictions a strong asset;
- Professional registration (e.g., P.Eng., R.P.Bio., PMP) considered an asset; and,
- Spanish and/or French language skill considered an asset.
Job Demands/Physical Requirements:
- This position is based in B2Gold’s Vancouver head office and will require frequent international travels, ranging from 30-50% of the time annually.
Compensation
B2Gold offers a competitive compensation package, including base salary commensurate with the candidate’s experience, knowledge and skill set, and a comprehensive benefit package for employees and their eligible dependents. The base salary range for this position is CAD $180,000.00 – 230,000.00 per annum, which is the anticipated pay at the time of hire but does not reflect similar future job opportunities. Details of the total compensation package will be shared during the interview process.
