  • Job Description Summary Your role as Lead Project Engineer - BESS will be part of the multi-disciplined engineering team, that sits within the global engineering organisation and will execute energy storage projects across the region. You will be the focal point to provide technical leadership on projects for the energy storage business in Australia. Working alongside project management teams, you will lead and coordinate with manufacturers, designers, and the wider engineering team to meet project objectives (safety, quality, delivery and cost) as well as provide technical guidance and advice to customers. You will also be instrumental in identifying and implementing improvements on processes, tools, and system solutions. Technical experience within power or utility will be useful when anticipating the needs of customers by providing practical solutions to achieve customer satisfaction. Job Description Essential Responsibilities Responsible for leading and coordinating all balance of plant technical aspects of energy storage projects, including developing the single line drawings and schematics, plan and elevation drawings, general arrangement and site layout, relay protection and control requirements, layouts for LV/HV equipment, conduit, cable, wiring, grounding, and control buildings. In addition, as the technical leader for assigned engineering projects or a program of projects, responsibilities also include activities such as schedule development and updates, supporting sourcing initiatives, planning and tracking project design reviews, quality control/quality assurance, and contractor management. As needed, provide oversight and reviews of deliverables in the proposal/bid phase. Responsibilities include estimating or reviewing design man-hours and materials, conceptual design engineering and BOM, directing designers and drafters on drawing requirements, preparing proposal documentation, writing and/or reviewing technical specifications, supporting sourcing for vendor quotations, and developing assumptions, clarifications, and exceptions as well as technical responses. Direct the efforts of engineers and designers. This includes writing equipment specifications and contractor work scopes, requesting vendor quotations, and evaluating those quotations, including but not limited to equipment such as energy storage containers, inverters, control & SCADA equipment, HV/MV circuit breakers, switchgear, disconnect switches, LV/MV power transformers, MV/HV cable, and protection and control systems. Single point of contact for technical issues for the customer and project manager. Interface with customers and project team members for final commissioning. Coordinate with sourcing and the project team on technical matters to meet project specifications, cost control objectives, and schedule objectives. Accountable for team results in order to deliver a high-quality product to customer requirements on time and on or under budget. Define processes and procedures, perform RCAs (Root Cause Analysis), perform corrective actions, and validate process control. Support quality and standardization initiatives. Qualifications and Requirements Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college / university in Electrical Engineering or Electronic or Instrumentation Engineering. At least 7 to 10 years’ experience in a similar role within power, utilities, energy storage sectors. Familiarity and experience working with standards such as National Connections Guidelines, Energy Networks Australia, AEMO, G99, CDM regulations and AS/NZS3000. Excellent communication skills, to manage and influence internal and external stakeholders. Technical knowledge on Power Conversion equipment, including generators, switchboards, transformers, converters, motors, energy storage, cabling etc. Experience in design engineering, field engineering. Ability to read and write technical specifications. Excellence in Customer Service Commercial awareness Ability and willingness to travel as required – domestic and international. Desired Characteristics Experience in interpreting power system design output such as: SLDs, LV & MV Protection & Co-ordination / Voltage Drop / Dip Calculations / Load Flow and Fault Studies / Transient System and scenario analysis / Harmonic (VTHD) calculations / MV & LV power system cabling (cable selection, rating etc.) / Quality of Power Supply / EMC. Ability to multi-task and prioritise on a variety of projects to strict time scales, always with professionalism and integrity. Strong communication, report writing, and organisational skills. Strong problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail. Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills. Cross functional, ability to work in a matrix environment, and exposure to working with international teams. Be able to work within a team environment. Demonstrated technical aptitude and business acumen.
