  •  Bureau Veritas is looking for a Laboratory Analyst – Asbestos Laboratory to join our environmental laboratory in Saint-Laurent, QC.

Your main responsibilities are

  • Preparation and analysis of bulk materials for asbestos using Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM) and analysis of air samples by Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM);
  • Determination of visual percentage and optical properties of asbestos and non-asbestos materials;
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures;
  • Review LIMS summary reports to plan and organize daily work to meet TAT specifications required by the client;
  • Perform quality control maintenance and analysis;
  • Identify any non-routine samples and seek guidance on procedures for handling;
  • Employ proper laboratory techniques to minimize risk of mislabeling, sample mix-up and cross contamination between samples;
  • Maintain and troubleshoot equipment;
  • Assist with ordering supplies;
  • Participate in internal and external audits;
  • Provide general lab support and perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Skills and requirements

  • Diploma in Geology or Chemistry;
  • Minimum one year laboratory experience preferred;
  • Microscopic analysis experience would be an asset;
  • Basic knowledge of asbestos (STRONG asset);
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Good time-management, multi-tasking and priority setting skills and are able to work under pressure with tight deadlines;
  • Adaptable and flexible to a changing environment.
  • Organized, detail-oriented with excellent record keeping skills.

Working conditions

  • Work schedule: day/evening/weekends (availability on weekends are mandatory for this role).
  • You need to be available for overtime during the peak season (1-2h/day) from May to December;
  • Please note that flexibility for overtime is required to meet business needs. It's important to note that overtime is not optional in this role. You will be expected to work the additional hours as directed by your supervisor, even if the need arises unexpectedly on a given day;
  • Status: Full time, 37.5h/week;
  • For this role you will need to be comfortable working on your feet for long hours.
