Position Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and skilled Intro to Trades Instructor to teach foundational skills in multiple trades to high school students (ages 14–18). The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in one or more trades such as Electrical, HVAC, Solar Installation, Carpentry, and Roofing, along with a passion for inspiring and mentoring young people.
This role combines practical, hands-on training with career readiness education, helping students gain an understanding of trade pathways and develop essential skills for future success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Instruction & Curriculum Delivery
- Deliver engaging lessons covering introductory concepts in Electrical, HVAC, Solar Installation, Carpentry, and Roofing.
- Utilize hands-on lab activities, demonstrations, and project-based learning to reinforce concepts.
- Adapt teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
- Student Engagement & Mentorship
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment.
- Motivate and inspire students to explore careers in the skilled trades.
- Provide guidance on trade career pathways, apprenticeships, and further training opportunities.
- Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all lessons and activities meet safety standards and protocols.
- Teach proper use, care, and maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Collaboration & Program Development
- Work with school staff and program coordinators to enhance curriculum and learning materials.
- Participate in team meetings, professional development, and community events.
Qualifications
Required:
- Hands-on experience in one or more trades (Electrical, HVAC, Solar Installation, Carpentry, Roofing).
- Ability to teach foundational knowledge and entry-level skills across multiple trades.
- Strong communication and classroom management skills.
- Ability to work with and mentor teenagers in an educational or community setting.
- Commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Preferred:
- Prior teaching or training experience, particularly with youth.
- Trade certifications or relevant licenses.
- OSHA 10/30 or similar safety training certification.
Work Schedule & Compensation:
- Schedule: Tuesdays & Thursdays. Part-time.
- Compensation: $20-$25 an hour, part-time. Based on teaching experience & credentials.
