- About the Role
- The human resources generalist is responsible for delivering consistent, accurate, and compliant HR services across the employee lifecycle. Reporting to the senior human resources manager, this role serves as a primary point of contact for employees and leaders on day-to-day HR matters and supports the effective administration of HR programs, policies, and processes. This role will also provide backup to the recruitment specialist, HR business partner and payroll and benefits specialist.
- Key Responsibilities
- * Advise employees on the interpretation and application of HR policies, procedures, compensation and benefits programs, and collective agreements.
- * Administer employee lifecycle activities including onboarding, offboarding, job changes, and documentation.
- * Payroll data entry.
- * Maintain accurate employee records and human resources information system (HRIS) data.
- * Support the payroll and benefits specialist with benefits administration, leaves of absence, and payroll inputs.
- * Support routine employee relations matters and escalate complex or high-risk issues as required.
- * Assist the HR business partner with performance management processes, training administration, and compliance reporting including job grant applications and apprenticeship support.
- * Compile and distribute human resources reports as scheduled and/or requested.
- * Draft memoranda, correspondence, reports, job descriptions and other employment documentation.
- * Ensure proactive and effective WCB claims management and account administration in all jurisdictions to meet regulatory requirements.
- * Ensure the effective and professional management of all leaves, disability claims, work accommodations and modified work arrangements.
- * Support recruitment and onboarding activities in collaboration with the recruitment specialist.
- * Respond to government agency inquiries regarding human resources.
- * Participate in continuous improvement of HR processes and practices.
- * Organize and conduct employee information meetings on employment policy, benefits, and compensation, and participate actively on various joint committees in conjunction with the HR business partner and/or payroll and benefits specialist
- * Stay abreast on compliance requirements and industry best practices; recommend changes or modifications to existing policies and programs to remain in compliance; adopt best practices where feasible.
- * Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Qualifications and Required Skills
- * Post-secondary education in human resources or a related field an asset.
- * Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in an HR generalist role.
- * Experience in payroll processing an asset.
- * Strong knowledge of Alberta employment legislation and HR best practices.
- * Ability to read and interpret legislation and collective agreements.
- * Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- * Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures.
- * Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands.
- * Knowledge of and exposure to a wide range of human resources activities.
- * Ability to work individually as well as collaboratively.
- * Strong sense of ethics and the ability to handle sensitive or private information with tact and discretion.
- * High flexibility with strong interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse environment.
- * Ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
- * Experience working with a unionized workforce is preferred.
- * Experience with ADP Workforce Now is preferred.
- * CPHR designation and/or PCP or working toward designation(s) is an asset.
