The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Human Resources Business Partners (HRBP) to join our Ontario Operations HR team on a full-time, fixed-term (up to 12 months) basis. This position will be based in Sudbury and will be responsible for working closely with plant management, Union representatives and employees at our regional mines and processing facilities to foster a safe, productive, and harmonious work environment. Furthermore, this position will strive to ensure compliance with governing labor laws, regulations, etc. and support the overall strategic goals of the company.


Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Provide expert labour relations advice regarding the application of Collective Bargaining Agreements, applicable legislation such as the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, and other Vale specific policies and procedures.
  • Support the grievance process from start to finish, including third party determination case management.
  • Conduct thorough investigations related to Workplace Violence, Harassment and Discrimination and other unacceptable behaviours.
  • Support conflict resolution and performance management administration.
  • Prepare and analyze metrics in order to provide insights and recommendations.
  • Coordinate and deliver HR/LR related training and guidance to various levels of the organization.
  • Support workforce planning, development initiatives and recruitment efforts to ensure that Operations has the necessary talent.
  • Assist with projects and other duties as assigned.


About You

Education:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Business, Commerce, Labour Studies, Human Resources, or a related discipline.
  • Human Resources Management – Graduate Certificate is preferred.
  • CHRP designation or Masters in a related field (e.g. MBA or MIR) is preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a related Human Resources generalist function.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment, providing labour relations support is preferred.
  • Although previous experience in a mining or an industrial setting is considered an asset, we also appreciate that diversity of thought comes from our differences.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of applicable employment law, collective agreements and HR best practices.
  • Ability to leverage strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain successful and influential relationships across the business.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage numerous deadlines while maintaining strong attention to detail.
  • Effective, clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving.
  • Proficiency in HR software systems and tools.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
