  • WHAT’S THE JOB?
  • The Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Field Advisor is a field-based contract position responsible for supporting remote sites and ensuring the effective delivery of health, safety, and environmental programs. This role requires regular travel to various sites on a rotational basis. Reporting to the Manager of HSE, the HSE Field Advisor monitors program delivery, ensures completion of required documentation, and supports the implementation of controls across all job sites. The role also includes assisting, directing, and leading investigations, preparing reports, and supporting the implementation of corrective actions. The HSE Field Advisor facilitates the communication of health, safety, and environment matters to employees, contractors, and clients, ensuring timely and efficient distribution of required information.
  • This position is based on a rotational basis (either 14 days on/7 days off or 14 days on/14 days off)
  • This position is safety sensitive and requires drug, alcohol, and fit to work testing as a condition of employment.

Your work will include

The HSE Field Advisor performs some or all the following duties

  • Serve as a field-based representative, supporting multiple sites through regular site visits during each rotation.
  • Assist with the delivery of an integrated Occupational Health, Safety & Environment program for, but not limited to, the Remote and Hospitality Services Division.
  • Lead, assist, and direct site-level incident and accident investigations; prepare timely and accurate reports; and support the development, implementation, and monitoring of corrective actions.
  • Maintain a high standard of internal and external customer care and contribute towards the development of customer service excellence.
  • Support and motivate leaders to take ownership of safety management systems and prioritize HSE in relation to other business objectives.
  • Identify and support strategies to address risks in changing business environments.
  • Apply technical knowledge, human factors, and risk assessment methods to research, review, and interpret hazard information, identify causation, consequences, and appropriate controls (including critical controls).
  • Ensure employees are empowered to stop work in situations that present an immediate threat to health, safety, or the environment.
  • Collaborate with the Manager of HSE to ensure consistent HSE practices are applied across all sites.
  • Monitor HSE performance and recommend preventative measures to Operations and the Manager of HSE.
  • Evaluate and report on the effectiveness of risk management and HSE processes at the site and operational level.
  • Ensure that HSE management systems are resourced, implemented, and maintained to prevent injuries, illnesses, property damage, and environmental impacts.
  • Measure field-level HSE program performance to achieve business objectives and continuous improvement.
  • Support site leadership in communicating compliance requirements, distributing safety information, and ensuring all staff are informed of company safety policies and bulletins.
  • Liaise closely with the HSE Manager, Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) Claims Coordinator and Horizon North’s extended HSE team.

  • Qualifications
  • WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
  • Successful completion of post-secondary education from an accredited university or college in Business Commerce, or Trades and Technology an asset.
  • Enrollment in or completion of a specialized Occupational Health and Safety training program is considered an asset.
  • 3 to 5 years of work experience in the safety field.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of current occupational Health, Safety & Environment regulations in Canada (municipal, provincial, federal) is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of provincial disability management protocols.
  • Valid driver’s license is appropriate for the type of vehicle required to operate.
  • Demonstrated ability to train, coach, evaluate, and improve others.
  • Ability to support others by demonstrating empathy, open-mindedness, and respect
  • Intermediate to advance skills in using the Microsoft Office Suite.
