Overview
Great Canadian Trails is currently hiring experienced Hiking Guides for the 2026 season onward for leading guided hiking trips in Newfoundland.

This is a seasonal contract role covering four (4) guided trips, each 8 days in duration for 2026 and more possibilities for 2027.

This role is ideal for a professional guide with strong wilderness leadership skills, excellent guest management, and a passion for delivering safe, memorable hiking experiences. Guides are expected to take full ownership of trip operations in the field and creating a welcoming atmosphere for hikers of all skill levels

Responsibilities

• Lead guided hikes along designated trails, ensuring safety and enjoyment for all participants
• Provide educational commentary about local flora, fauna, geology, and history to enhance the guest experience
• Assist guests with gear, trail navigation, and questions during excursions
• Monitor weather conditions and trail status to adapt plans accordingly
• Manage group dynamics, fostering a positive and inclusive environment
• Promote environmental awareness and responsible outdoor practices

Requirements

• Proven experience in outdoor guiding
• Excellent public speaking and communication skills to effectively share knowledge with guests
• Strong leadership qualities
• Exceptional time management skills to keep hikes on schedule
• Passion for outdoor activities, nature conservation, and education
• Ability to handle physical demands such as walking on uneven terrain for extended periods
• Valid certifications in first aid or wilderness safety
• Multilingual or bilingual skills are a plus for engaging diverse groups
