Job Summary
The Health and Safety Coordinator is primarily responsible for overseeing and administering the Health and Safety program and monitoring safety compliance.
Major Responsibilities:
Support the development and implementation of site specific health and safety plans, emergency response plans, training programs and procedures
- Facilitate employee and subcontractor orientations
- Plan and present safety meetings, advise/Co-Chair JHSC
- Support with training & development
- Track and administer worker and sub-contractor safety training/training records
- Compile and report on health and safety statistics and records
- Manage health and safety operations at assigned shop/plant location and various sites within assigned geographical area
- Support the development and implementation of site specific health and safety programs; emergency response plans and procedures; training & development initiatives
- Provide updates to the relevant leadership team (field/plant/shop) on health and safety issues and inspections/audits
- Organize and support completion of site inspections, hazard assessments, toolbox talks, pre shift inspections and preventative maintenance logs, participate in developing safe work practices
- Collaborate with the operations teams to determine corrective actions for identified hazards
- Organize, track, and facilitate safety training for workers and safety orientation for new hires and subcontractor orientations, in conjunction with Senior Management.
- Ensure completion of annual Health and Safety Improvement Plan (HSIP) including legislative requirements for COR certification
- Assist in reporting and investigation process for all incidents, accidents and near misses, determine corrective actions.
- Manage Incident claims, WSIB Claims, and Early and Safe Return to Work Programs
- Plan and present safety meetings; update and monitor company performance of H&S statistics and KPIs, identify trends and provide recommendations.
- Conduct site tours, audit H&S performance of assigned facilities monthly
- Ensure documents are stored, updated and compliant (ex. Corfix, Fleetio, ComplyWorks, etc.).
- Other duties as required
Education, Experience, Required Skills:
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, acceptable drivers abstract
- Valid First Aid, joint health and safety committee certification
- 3+ years’ experience in health & safety
- Strong demonstrated knowledge of H&S management systems within a field setting
- Experience managing WSIB claims, Investigation and Reporting, an asset
- Diploma in Safety, Occupational Health or related field, preferred or CSP/CRSP certification, Bachelor’s Degree an asset
- Transportation industry experience / heavy truck environment an asset
- Certification in at least one health & safety auditors’ program; experience performing COR audits an asset
- Demonstrated proficiency with H&S, Fleet Management, Dash Cam programs/applications an asset
Working Conditions:
The position entails both administrative duties within an office environment, and on site, hands on delivery of H&S initiatives including safety talks, site compliance audits, PPE compliance audits.
