- Are you passionate about prevention, partnership, and making safety work in the real world? We are seeking a Health & Safety Advisor to support and strengthen the City’s occupational health and safety program through expert advice, practical guidance, and collaborative problem-solving. In this role, you’ll work closely with leaders and frontline teams across a wide range of services, helping embed safety into daily operations, support continuous improvement, and contribute to a strong, shared safety culture. What YOU’RE Responsible for
- Partnering with municipal leaders and diverse teams to provide comprehensive technical and safety advice, fostering a culture of safety and compliance across all City departments from executive leadership to municipal field operations.
- Supporting the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the City’s Health and Safety Management System.
- Administering and maintaining the City’s Safety Management System (BIS), including system integrity, user support, training records, certifications, and reporting.
- Conducting and supporting incident, near-miss, and hazard investigations using root-cause analysis and risk-based approaches.
- Analyzing safety data, trends, and metrics to support reporting, audits, and informed decision-making.
- Supporting compliance with Alberta Occupational Health & Safety legislation, COR/PIR requirements, and related standards.
- Assist in conducting workplace inspections, work observations, hazard assessments, and providing practical, solutions-focused recommendations within a variety of municipal workplaces.
- Providing safety-focused technical input on WCB incidents, modified work considerations, and preventative measures, in partnership with HR.
- Coaching and advising leaders and frontline teams to strengthen safety awareness, accountability, and culture.
- Supporting contractor safety reviews and compliance in collaboration with project and operational teams.
- Participating in emergency preparedness and response activities as they relate to employee safety.
- Ensuring adherence to all relevant OHS Legislation, City policies, safety directives, and respectful workplace standards.
- Assist in the reporting of unsafe conditions and near-miss incidents promptly and promoting a proactive safety culture.
- Other duties as assigned.
What YOU Bring
- A two-year post-secondary diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or a closely related discipline.
- A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in occupational health and safety.
- Experience supporting or administering an occupational health and safety program or safety management system.
- Experience conducting incident investigations, hazard assessments and controls, and root-cause analysis.
- Experience developing, facilitating, or delivering safety training and education.
- Strong working knowledge of Alberta Occupational Health & Safety legislation and best practices.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and coach without formal authority.
- A professional safety designation (CRSP, CRST, CSP, CSHM, or similar) is considered an asset.
- Municipal or public-sector experience is an asset.
- Demonstrate sound judgment, practical problem-solving skills, and the ability to navigate competing priorities.
- Skilled in MS Office and data management, with a proven ability to leverage reporting tools and technical systems for operational efficiency.

- A salary range of $79,406.60 - $103,594.40 per annum (based on experience and qualifications)
