Job Description: Position Purpose summary: The CFS Food Bank Coordinator provides assistance, to participants who seek support to meet their basic human needs. This position provides guidance and support as part of a team in the areas of: Food Bank (Neepawa and McCreary), Christmas Hampers, Kettle Campaign, vouchers for Thrift Store participants, community liaison, Emergency Disaster Services, and other programs that are developed to meet the needs of clients and the community. Accountabilities: Community Services: Meet with clients to assess their needs through intake processes using the Link2Feed client management system Distribute food assistance through the Food Bank as per current operational policies Assist the Community Ministries Director with ongoing strategic planning to ensure programming and services reflects client needs Work cooperatively with Program Coordinator to address needs of clients Refer clients to work with Program Coordinator to connect with community resources, programs, agencies and services. Issue vouchers to clients for basic needs for the thrift store as per policy and request Operate all Food Bank Operations including but not limited to, Warehouse, Food Rescue and Food Distribution in accordance with the Standards of Excellence. This includes the Neepawa operations and the McCreary Food Bank Programs. Coordinate and support local food drives Coordinate, support and expand food rescue program Organize and help to maintain the cleanliness of all areas used by the Community Services, and other areas Network with referral agencies and/or other community sources of assistance, as required Network with Salvation Army, government, and community social services providers to coordinate resources for the benefit of clients and program. Represent The Salvation Army Neepawa Community Services within the community, as directed. Cover Programming operations in absence of the Programming Coordinator Provide Emergency Disaster Services as part of a team Volunteer Management Coordinate with the CFS Program Coordinator to ensure that the Food Bank Program has adequate volunteer assistance. Train, schedule, evaluate and thank volunteers for the Food Bank Program Provide direction and support to employees and volunteers and ensure that they work together to achieve the purposes of the organization. Submit strategies and recommendations for volunteer development to Community Ministries Director Administration: Input data into Link2Feed; complete and submit all statistical reports in a timely manner Track and record all food donations, incoming and outgoing, including input data into Second Harvest app for food rescue program Ensure all Food Bank Standards of Excellence are maintained and updated as required, including all logs and training. Maintain confidentiality and keep accurate participant files and statistical records Ensure that programs are regularly reviewed and evaluated Work with the Community Ministries Director to ensure that programs (including program reviews, inspections, and audits) meet contractual, legal and internal requirements. Conduct all administrative duties as outlined with due diligence Follow direction on the compliance and adherence to Operating Policies and Procedures (i.e. gift cards, vouchers etc.) Ability to perform program and administration duties that may need to be addressed in the absence of the Program Coordinator Ability to tell the Ministry Units story through Social Media platforms Update Food Bank related information on Ministry Unit Website Advertise and promote the Food Bank in a variety of avenues by leveraging partnership and community contacts Seasonal Supervise and coordinate volunteers for the Christmas Hamper Program Coordinate Toy Drives Distribute available items and donations to all participants requiring Christmas assistance CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT Internal: Community Ministries Director CFS Program Coordinator Thrift Store Employees Community Council Area Commander External: Community liaison to other groups and agencies Recruitment of volunteers when needed MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY: This position reports directly to the Community Ministries Director This position has no direct employee reports but does give direction to Food Bank volunteers FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT Handles petty cash, when necessary Handles all food bank related non-cash donations Ensures the Ministry Unit vehicle is regularly maintained under the Vehicle Use Policy Accepts cash donations and writes temporary receipts Coordinates Food Bank and Christmas Program purchases through the Community Ministries Director Gives input to the budget WORKING CONDITIONS: Working environment is typically in the office, food bank and warehouse in generally agreeable conditions Some travel and work in the community Travel regularly to McCreary to support the satellite Food Bank operations. Periodic travel away for trainings may be required and flexible hours to deliver programs may be associated with this position Willingness to work some evenings and weekends to meet program needs Food Rescue may result in working in the outdoors in all weather conditions Ability to lift and carry weights of up to 50 lbs The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Army’s Mission Statement, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct. education, experience, AND Qualifications: Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities. Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures. Ability to provide an original copy of a Criminal Record vulnerable persons and Adult Abuse registry check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. Ability to provide a Child Abuse Registry Check. Education, Qualifications and Certifications: Completion of a formal post-secondary program of two academic years Current First Aid/CPR Certification or willingness to complete once hired. Current Food Handlers Certification or willingness to complete once hired. Current Non-Violent Crisis training or willingness to complete once hired. Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered. Experience and Knowledge: 2 years’ relevant experience and/or experience working directly with marginalized people Knowledge of warehouse and inventory management an asset Knowledgeable about Social Media management and advertising Skills and Capabilities Knowledge of community-based resources is an asset Experience in office administration, computers and database entry Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software Ability to provide a valid Manitoba Class “5” Driver’s license, own vehicle, and current driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion Must be able to establish good working relationships with community partners Must be able to work independently and as part of a team environment Able to work in a consultative, diplomatic and tactful manner Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgement Ability to lift weights of up to 50 lbs. Self-motivated and disciplined Strong sense of integrity with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility Able to proactively recognize potential risks and issues, respond with solutions and engage others in implementing change Strong written and verbal communication skills - clear and simple to understand Effective organizational and time management skills – self-motivated and disciplined self-starter Ability and willingness to adhere to, support, and promote The Salvation Army’s mission, vision, and values Compensation: The target hiring range for this position is $17.67 to $22.09 with a maximum of $26.51. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
