Department Recreation & Culture Affiliation Non-Union Compensation Range $27.64 - $30.05 Job Summary The Town of Ajax is seeking an energetic and motivated Fitness Centre Consultant to work various shifts (days/evenings/weekends) throughout the week. Reporting to the Fitness Coordinator, the Fitness Centre Consultant is accountable for overseeing the Fitness & Health Centre providing a safe and welcoming environment consisting of exceptional customer service, exercise guidance, mini-clinics, and health-related knowledge to fitness members and drop-in customers. Fitness Centre Consultants also have the opportunity to provide Personal Training and Fitness Appraisal services in addition to their scheduled hours. Job Duties Include Key Duties Provides advice and assistance on exercise technique, program design and equipment use. Provides tours of the facilities for potential fitness members. Educates the public on issues of fitness and active lifestyles. Creates an environment where participants strive to participate fully, perform the best of their ability, and learn new skills. Acts as a positive role model for members and co-workers. Responds to customers on a daily basis in person and occasionally by phone. Interacts with the public on a regular basis, and promotes Town programs to customers. Listens to feedback from customers and responds in a professional and knowledgeable manner. Monitoring of membership cards and pay-go customers – i.e. ensuring payment was received / membership cards are current. Oversee the cleaning and maintenance of assigned equipment. Monitors safety in fitness facilities and addresses/reports safety concerns. Responds to emergency situations and administers first aid as necessary. Qualifications/Skills College diploma in health and fitness related studies. Minimum of one year fitness centre training experience. Can-Fit-Pro/CPTN/NSCA/ACSM personal training certification is required. Valid Standard First Aid & CPR C. Extensive knowledge of exercise prescription, coaching and strength training principles. Organization, time management and planning skills. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Exceptional customer service skills. Able to work effectively in a team environment. Strong oral and written communication skills. Maintains an active lifestyle. An energetic personality and a passion to motivate others to live an active lifestyle. Self-motivated to pursue Professional Development Credits via workshops, conferences, self-reading, to maintain knowledge and expertise on current exercise techniques, methodology and research. Required to maintain a valid fitness certification by completing continuing education courses (CECs/PDCs) annually where required by the certifying body. Able to provide a clear Criminal Reference Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search) that is current (completed within the last 6 months), upon being hired. Nice to Have CSEP – Certified Personal Trainer or Clinical Exercise Physiologist designation is preferred. What is Offered to Staff Compensation: We offer competitive pay that reflects the responsibilities of the position. Hours of Work: This is a non-union position that works up to 24 hours per week. The hours of work are Monday to Friday, various shifts between 5:45 a.m. - 10:45 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, various shifts between 6:45 a.m. – 9:15 p.m. and some holidays.
