Estimator Reporting to the Manager, Preconstruction, this role will provide Estimating Services to support the Project Development and Estimating department. The successful candidate will work on conceptual estimates, design-build proposals, and lump sum estimates, including quantity takeoffs, unit pricing, and subcontractor pricing. By offering guidance to other members of the Estimating team and supporting strong client relationships, the Intermediate Estimator is an integral member of the team. This role is office based and the large majority of the individual’s typical workday is spent in a seated position using general office equipment such as but not limited to a computer, phone, printer, scanner, etc. Reports to: Manager, Preconstruction Duties & Responsibilities: Solicitation, review and levelling of subcontractor and material supply quotes. Maintain subcontractor/supplier relations through networking, attending construction association events, etc. Follow up with invited subcontractors/suppliers to confirm their intentions to quote. Monitor tender documents and facilitate their distribution to subtrades/suppliers as required. Prepare construction logistics plans and schedules for estimating purposes. Prepare risk mitigation plans. Assess and report on constructability and value optimization. Collaborate with Procurement and Operations. Maintain unit price and productivity knowledge and database. Prepare accurate and complete estimates including quantity takeoffs, unit pricing, and sub-contractor and supplier pricing. Ensure they are submitted before the bid deadline. Prepare risk mitigation plans and effectively manage risks that might impact estimates. Take part in Project Team meetings. Participate in Clark Builders University (CBU) initiatives and Career Progression plan to further personal growth and knowledge base Attend training courses as required by Manager Adhere to Clark Builders’ policies and procedures Lead or assist in tender closings Support decision-making processes by evaluating options based on value rather than lowest cost. Facilitate discussions around cost, performance, and life cycle benefits of design choices. Actively participate in and help guide collaborative sessions with owners, designers, and trade partners. Provide real-time estimating insights to support informed decision-making. Continuously track and report cost trends to maintain alignment with the owner’s budget. Offer proactive cost guidance to avoid budget overruns and maximize project value. Work with the team to set and maintain cost targets throughout design evolution. Proactively identify cost-saving opportunities without sacrificing project value. Skills & Knowledge: Ability to manage multiple workflows and tasks concurrently. Expert knowledge of Estimating software (InEight) is an asset. Manage deadlines for completion of assigned tasks. Comfortable working in a team environment. Ability to work with and lead in a team environment. Adapt to changing job requirements and direction from multiple sources. Knowledge of scheduling software (MS Project, P6) and ability to build accurate schedules. Ability to perform accurate quantity takeoffs both manually and electronically. Communicate professionally through verbal and written methods. Identify building materials and possible design alternatives for cost reduction or time savings. Develop Sub-Contractor work scopes for tendering. Identify bonding and insurance requirements Understand client’s requirements and incorporate requirement into costing Ability to visualize end products with minimal project information. Exposure to and understanding of lean construction principles. Proficient in Google Suite. Proficient in Microsoft Office. Qualifications: A Post-Secondary Certificate/Degree in Engineering, or the equivalent of a designated Professional Engineer or a Technical School graduate in a Construction-related discipline.
