PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

ESL for Healthcare is an 8‑week online program designed for learners at Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 4/5. The course focuses on building language and communication skills necessary for working in healthcare settings such as pharmacies, medical offices, and hospitals. Instruction includes live sessions, self‑paced Moodle modules, interactive lessons, role‑play, videos, and real‑world practice scenarios.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, and deliver engaging, interactive online ESL lessons focused on healthcare vocabulary and communication skills.
  • Facilitate live sessions (Mondays & Fridays, 6‑8 pm) to develop students’ speaking, listening, reading, and writing in healthcare contexts.
  • Create and maintain Moodle module content and other self‑paced materials (including H5P activities, videos, etc.).
  • Design role‑plays and real‑life practice scenarios relevant to healthcare settings (pharmacy, medical offices, etc.).
  • Assess student progress, provide feedback, and support students’ independent practice.
  • Ensure all required course objectives are met, and students complete the 32 instructional hours and all independent practice activities.
  • Maintain records of attendance, grades, and communication with students.
  • Participate in instructor development and any required training for online instruction tools and platforms.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Certification in TESL, TEFL, CELTA or equivalent.
  • Experience teaching Adults ESL/ELL, especially in workplace or professional contexts.
  • Strong familiarity with healthcare vocabulary, settings, and communication styles.
  • Competence in using educational technology, online teaching platforms (Moodle), and interactive learning tools (e.g. H5P).
  • Excellence in spoken and written English; ability to model professional, polite communication.
  • Strong organizational skills, punctuality, and ability to manage classes online.
  • Must reside in Canada and be eligible to work in Canada

Preferred:

  • PBLA Certification is an asset.
  • Experience teaching Adults Newcomers is an asset.
  • Experience working with adult learners at CLB Levels 4/5.
  • Prior experience in healthcare field or knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience designing role‑plays or simulations.
  • Familiarity with online learning best practices.

Pay: $28.00-$32.00 per hour
