- Overview of the Role
- The Fulfillment Sub-department focuses on improving capabilities in Platform, Provision, Seat Management, Subscription Management, and Utilization areas. Our mission is to provide customers with a world-class buyer experience through the infrastructure and systems that power GitLab's purchasing and licensing processes.
- As an Engineering Manager for Fulfillment, you will specialize in people leadership, viewing your team as your product. You'll be a big-picture thinker who takes a platform approach to building self-service fulfillment infrastructure that is delightful, performant, trustworthy, and reliable. Your role requires you to be a multiplier and collaborator, safeguarding your team's health while hiring world-class talent and positioning them for success. You'll own delivery of product commitments, continuously improve productivity, and coordinate across departments to accomplish collaborative goals. While you remain technically credible and understand engineering details, your primary focus is on people leadership and strategic platform development.
- What You'll Do
- Build and lead a world-class fulfillment team, making them happy, successful, and effective
- Drive big-picture strategy for self-service fulfillment platform development with a platform-first approach
- Has knack of asking targeted questions, navigating current gaps and drive towards a self service platform
- Own delivery of product commitments while continuously improving team processes and productivity
- Hold regular 1:1s with all team members, safeguarding team health and enabling individual growth
- Plan and execute long-term strategies that benefit the team and product stage
- Foster technical decision-making on the team and make final decisions when necessary
- Conduct code reviews, make technical contributions to product architecture, and solve bugs when needed
- Act as a multiplier by empowering your team and amplifying their impact
- Collaborate effectively across departments to achieve shared goals and build consensus amongst stakeholders
- Discern and improve engineering metrics to drive team excellence
- What You'll Bring
- Experience managing a team of engineers
- Big-picture thinking with ability to balance immediate needs against long-term platform strategy
- Proven track record as a people leader, multiplier, and cross-functional collaborator
- Expert comprehension of core web and browser concepts (e.g., JavaScript asynchronous handling)
- In-depth experience with CSS, HTML, and JavaScript
- Experience building large scale customer facing SAAS applications
- Experience in handling applications that are subject SOX and other regulatory compliance
- Ability to achieve consensus amongst stakeholders and navigate complex organizational dynamics
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Alignment with GitLab values: collaboration, results, efficiency, diversity, iteration, and transparency
- Ability to use GitLab effectively
- About the Team
- We collaborate closely with stable counterparts including Sales & Go-To-Market teams (Deal Desk), Finance & IT (Analytics Engineering), Support Engineering, and Product Technical Program Management. Our cross-functional work extends to various working groups including the GTM Product Usage Data Working Group, GitLab Order to Cash Technical Fusion Team, and Cloud Licensing initiatives.
- The Fulfillment Development Sub-department strives to increase the reliability and availability of Fulfillment infrastructure, make foundational technical improvements to the architecture and data models of the Fulfillment systems, and improve the developer experience through better tooling and documentation.
