Position: Early Childhood Educator Assistant

Age Group: Infants and Toddlers (0–36 months)

Position Summary

The Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA) supports the Toddler Teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and

developmentally appropriate environment for toddlers. The ECEA assists with daily routines, care, supervision, and

activities while following centre policies and childcare licensing regulations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Health, Safety, and Supervision

 Assist in providing active supervision of toddlers at all times.

 Help maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment.

 Follow health, safety, and sanitation procedures.

 Observe children for signs of illness or injury and report concerns to the supervising educator.

2. Daily Care, Routines, and Potty Training Support

 Assist with diapering, toileting, and potty training using proper hygiene practices.

 Support developmentally appropriate toilet learning based on each child’s readiness.

 Follow individual toileting plans as directed by the Toddler Teacher.

 Encourage independence in handwashing, dressing, and self-help skills.

 Clean and disinfect diapering and toileting areas according to regulations.

3. Support for Learning and Development

 Assist in implementing play-based learning activities planned by the Toddler Teacher.

 Support children during group activities, free play, and outdoor play.

 Encourage positive social interactions and language development.

 Observe children’s behavior and development and share observations with the supervising educator.

4. Guidance and Behavior Support

 Support the Toddler Teacher in using positive and respectful guidance strategies.

 Help children manage transitions and routines.

 Model appropriate behavior and communication.

5. Communication and Documentation

 Assist with daily documentation as required (diapering, toileting, meals, naps).

 Communicate respectfully with families under the guidance of the supervising educator.

 Share relevant information with the teaching team.

6. Classroom Environment

 Help set up, maintain, and clean learning materials and activity areas.

 Assist with room setup, toy rotation, and end-of-day cleanup.

 Support preparation for special activities or events.

7. Teamwork and Professional Responsibilities

 Work collaboratively with the Toddler Teacher and childcare team.

 Follow centre policies, procedures, and professional standards.

 Maintain confidentiality regarding children and families.

 Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development as required.

Qualifications

 Valid Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA) certification (as required by licensing authority)

 Current First Aid and CPR certification

 Clear criminal record check

 Basic understanding of toddler development

 Ability to follow direction and work cooperatively as part of a team

Working Conditions

 Ability to assist toddlers with physical care needs.

 Frequent standing, bending, lifting, and active movement.

 Fast-paced childcare environment requiring patience, flexibility, and teamwork.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent, Casual

Pay: $20.00-$22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
