Tasks: Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions. Load and unload goods. Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials. Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle. Perform preventive maintenance. Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption. Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo. Follow emergency and safety procedures. Communicate with other workers to co-ordinate the preparation and completion of work assignments.
