Education: College/CEGEP. or equivalent experience. Work setting: Relocation costs not covered by employer. Willing to relocate. Tasks: Analyze the client's eyeglasses or contact lenses and by measuring the client's eye curvature, pupillary distance and bridge width, using optical measuring devices. Obtain specifications for eyeglasses and contact lenses from a prescription prepared by an ophthalmologist or optometrist. Supervise or manage activities of other opticians or student opticians. Assist clients in selecting eyeglasses. Advise on use and care of contact lenses. Arrange for grinding or polishing of lenses or grind and polish lenses. Cut and edge lenses and fit lenses into frames. Adjust finished eyeglasses to fit client. Welding experience. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Licensure by provincial or territorial authorities. Area of specialization: Obtain specifications for eyeglasses or contact lenses and fit clients with prescription eyeglasses or contact lenses.
