The Opportunity

  • We’re looking to fill an opening for a Director, Strategic Finance, to join our Finance team.
  • Reporting to the Vice-President, Financial Planning & Analysis, the Director, Strategic Finance is the primary finance partner delivering exceptional service, support and training to our Asset Management business line. The Director, Strategic Finance provides value-added decision support and works with line-of-business leaders to develop and implement solutions that achieve strategic priorities and outcomes. Strong business acumen, ability to influence and make sound recommendations, as well as build and maintain solid relationships with stakeholders are key success factors in this role. The Director, Strategic Finance oversees the forecasting and budgeting processes for line(s) of business and is involved with client pricing decisions and overseeing analysis/reporting of key business metrics and drivers. At times, the role will involve supporting the Strategy & Innovation team with mergers & acquisitions analysis/modelling as well as supporting other departments with financial modelling.

What your day looks like

  • Lead the annual budgeting/forecasting process with the assigned line(s) of business and update forecasts on a quarterly basis for executives/Board
  • Lead and provide strategic finance support, including business casing, pricing analyses and other financial models, for Asset Management
  • Join the Asset Management Executive Committee and contribute to the business’ strategic direction
  • Act as a key partner to executives, business leaders and their teams, including regularly educating them via presentations and other means, on financial performance, drivers and opportunities
  • Oversee and manage all FP&A line of business executive/board reporting, including ongoing reporting improvements
  • Collaborate and support leaders across a variety of departments, including Product, Investment Management, Sales, Compliance, Legal etc.
  • Analyze complex financial information to provide accurate and timely financial reports/recommendations to support strategic and tactical decisions
  • Regularly uncover opportunities to drive efficiencies/savings, including support for various contract renegotiations
  • Write monthly and quarterly commentaries for executive/board reports
  • Create ad hoc financial models to support departments across Aviso, as required
  • Work with the Strategy & Innovation team and executives on ad hoc M&A opportunities as well as one-off/custom board reports
  • Demonstrate leadership within the FP&A team through mentoring and educating analysts to support team growth and succession planning

Your experience and skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting
  • MBA and/or professional designation (CA, CGA, CMA / CPA, CFA)
  • A minimum of 10 years’ progressive experience in finance/financial services roles, with at least five years at a Director level, preferably within the wealth/asset management industry
  • At least five years’ experience leading and managing a team
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with investment products, including mutual funds and SMA platforms
  • Strong understanding of data analytics
  • Familiarity with enterprise planning tools to facilitate budgeting and forecasting activities
  • Highly analytical and detail-oriented
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to prioritize and handle multiple simultaneous assignments
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Proven ability to anticipate business needs and priorities, working with all levels of management and employees
  • Superior communication and presentation skills to persuade and influence peers and upper management
  • Demonstrated willingness to roll-up sleeves and work with team members in a hands-on management capacity
  • Ability to thrive in a past-paced performance-driven environment, dealing with ambiguity and change
  • Fluent communication skills in English are required and bilingual skills in French are an asset

  • Salary
  • This position is posted with an expected salary range of $140,000 - $165,000 CAD annually. Individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidate and the requirements of the position.
