- Ferrovial Construction Canada Inc. and VINCI Construction Grands Projects are undertaking the design, build, and finance the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations, and Tunnel (South Civil) package.
- As Ontario Transit Group, we are now mobilizing our design and construction crews, with major works. The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030.
- The project will strengthen Ontario’s economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction.
- What is the project?
- A six-kilometer tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River)
Stations
- One above-ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station
- Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations
- Four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown)

- Job Description
- The Construction Technical Office (CTO) is a department within the Design Team of the Contractor that becomes active once the IFC documentation has been issued and construction activities are in full swing.
- The CTO Team serves as a bridge between our Construction Team and our Designers, addressing any design-related issues that arise during the Construction Phase of the Project until Construction Completion is achieved.
The successful candidate will join the CTO Team and, reporting to the CTO Manager, will
- Work closely with the Construction Team to coordinate with our Designers on any design changes and issues that inevitably occur during construction, related to the structural design. These issues will be related to the IFC documentation and will be in the form of Requests For Information (RFI), Field Change Requests (FCR), Non-Conformances (NCR), Notices of Design Change (NDC), etc.
- Attend, organize, or lead regular and ad-hoc meetings focused on structural questions with the Construction Team and the Designers.
- Track the performance of the Designers in terms of their responses to RFI, FCR, NDC, NCR, etc., for the structural topics as well as their review of shop drawings, evaluating potential impacts on the Construction Schedule.
- Prepare, regularly update, and track the schedule of shop drawings and other design submittals reviewed by our Designers.
- Review, in accordance with the Project Specifications and local standards, and with the support of the Discipline Lead Managers, shop drawings related to the structure prepared by our Subcontractor’s Designers. The review of shop drawings shall cover constructability, comparison with the IFC Design, and the analysis of potential interfaces with other designers (e.g., temporary works designers).
- Prepare and distribute to all parties any redlines and IFC drawing markups arising from RFI, FCR, NDC, etc., on a regular basis. These redlines and markups will form part of the as-built documentation required for the Record Drawings.
- Participate in the coordination and resolution of design-related issues between different departments such as our Construction Team, Means and Methods Team, Quality Team, and other teams within the Design Team (Architecture, MEP, Traffic), addressing any potential conflicts in the most beneficial way for the project as a whole.
- Provide all necessary inputs to track the Designer’s cost (ESDC, Engineering Services During Construction), based on the Time and Material invoices received during construction.
- Regularly visit relevant construction sites as required.
- Attend meetings with our Client and their Technical Advisor as required.
- Perform other duties as applicable.
- Qualifications
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in at least one Province in Canada, or the ability to obtain registration in Ontario within 6 months.
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Construction Engineering. A Master’s degree in Civil or Construction Engineering is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the detailed design of building and civil infrastructure projects (plan production and specifications).
- Sound knowledge of building design, with previous experience working in design teams or with external consultants required.
- Knowledge and experience with Autodesk software (Civil 3D, AutoCAD, Revit, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or BIM360), and other applicable common software in the field of transportation engineering. Ideally, knowledge in specific software for the structures design (SAP2000, ETABS, IDEA StatiCa, etc.).
