Responsibilities ...
The Controller holds overall responsibility for the planning, recording, and reporting of financial information, ensuring the integrity of financial statements and the control of financial transactions across the Group.
Leadership & Management Accountability:
Lead the Accounting Team: Provide active leadership and supervision to the Assistant Controller and Manager of Accounting, overseeing all aspects of the accounting cycle, including monthly journal entries, accruals, GL closing, and balance sheet reconciliations.
Talent Development: Actively coach and provide timely, constructive feedback to direct reports, fostering an environment of continuous improvement, growth, and learning within the team.
Internal Controls & Compliance: Own the reliability and effectiveness of internal controls over financial processes, ensuring all financial and accounting policies are consistently and accurately implemented under IFRS.
Financial Planning & Strategic Reporting
Financial Reporting Integrity: Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports, including a clear narrative for management, ensuring accuracy under IFRS standards.
Strategic Planning: Actively participate in strategic planning and ongoing business decisions. Lead the preparation of the annual budget and monthly/quarterly forecasts across all functions.
Performance Analysis: Lead the monthly analysis of actuals versus budget and prior years. Conduct detailed profit and loss statement analysis with a focus on gross profit, providing data-driven recommendations for productivity, profit improvement, and cost containment activities.
Treasury & Tax Management: Manage cash, oversee inter-company transfers and reconciliations, and ensure timely monthly/annual tax filing requirements and remittances across multiple jurisdictions.
Qualifications
We are seeking a proactive, dependable leader who demonstrates both technical mastery and exceptional people skills.
Progressive & Stable Experience: 8+ years of progressive experience in financial reporting, ideally within a public company environment, with at least 5+ years in a managerial or leadership capacity.
Educational Foundation: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (required); MBA is a bonus.
Certification: CPA designation is required.
Technical Mastery: Advanced expertise in accounting standards and practices (IFRS is key), financial reporting processes, tax legislation, and internal controls.
Leadership & Initiative: Must be an influential leader with a collaborative management style. You must take initiative, own the job, and be a dependable resource who thrives without extensive hand-holding.
Cultural Fit: Flexible, easy to get along with, and able to motivate others while fostering a culture of continuous learning.
Industry & Systems (Desirable): Experience working in the distribution industry (beneficial) and experience with AS/400, Blackline, and Hyperion Financial Management (highly desirable).
