Position Summary
- As a member of the ICU & Critical Care Redevelopment Program, the Clinical Educator role supports the Hospital’s strategic plan and corporate goals and objectives throughout the organization. Reporting directly to the Director, ICU & Critical Care Redevelopment Program, the Clinical Educator role functions as a practitioner, consultant, educator and facilitator for all team members and management within the Respiratory Therapy Department.
- The Clinical Educator role will focus on supporting a centralized Respiratory Therapy team that cares for patients across the life span. Key to this role is the identification of staff learning needs followed by the development and delivery of education as well as evaluation of employee and program performance. Apart from program specific responsibilities, the Clinical Educator provides consultation and support throughout the hospital, and participates in hospital-wide educational initiatives, working groups, and committees, as required. This role requires a transformational leader who is passionate about coaching teams and creating an environment of curiosity, creativity and continuous learning.
- Job Description
- Plan, deliver and evaluate orientation and continuing education to members of the Respiratory Therapy team
- Collaborate with and support preceptors for a successful clinical experience of students and new staff
- Monitor and evaluate individual integration of learning into clinical practice
- Partner with individual members of the interprofessional team to establish recommendations and plans for improvement and/or achievement of clinical excellence
- Evaluate and monitor proper and safe use of clinical equipment
- Participate in organizational and program committees as required
- Participate in regional educational and planning activities as required
- Participate in global (hospital wide) education and planning as required
Key Qualifications
- Current registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario and in good standing
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- Minimum five years’ of Respiratory Therapy experience in acute care
- Experience working with patients across the life span in a variety of clinical settings
- Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of adult learning required, Certificate in Adult Education preferred
- Experience in developing educational and training programs preferred
- Teaching experience in adult learning environment strongly preferred
- Demonstrated consistency in approachability, clinical excellence, patience, respectful interactions and diplomacy
- Demonstrated ability to work individually and as a team member
- Demonstrated leadership skills and proven effectiveness as a mentor and building highly effective teams
- Demonstrated ability to excel during times of change and role-model effective change management
- Proven commitment to evidence-based practice and reflective practice
- Demonstrated knowledge of applicable Standards of Practice
- Competence with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel
- Commitment to organizational values including excellence, collaboration, accountability, respect, and compassion
- Committed to patient-centred care
- Strong critical thinking, decision making, problem solving and conflict resolution skills
- Commitment to quality improvement
