Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 3 months to less than 1 year. Work setting: Dental practice. Independently owned business. Tasks: Prepare patients for dental examinations. Order dental and office supplies. Prepare dental instruments and filling materials. Maintain and order supplies. Perform reception and clerical duties. Sterilize and maintain instruments and equipment. Educate patients concerning oral hygiene. Schedule and confirm appointments. Perform intra-oral duties. Record dental procedures performed on patients. Invoice patients for dental services. Take preliminary impressions for diagnostic casts. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Membership in the Canadian Dental Assistants Association. Registration with provincial or territorial authorities. Certification by the National Dental Assisting Examining Board. Computer and technology knowledge: MS Windows. Area of specialization: Crowns and bridges. Security and safety: Criminal record check.
