Position Purpose Summary:
This position serves to ensure the warehouse is organized by sorting and packing donations, and kept clean through following health and safety procedures. This position also provides pick-up and/or delivery services to and from donors or clients or customers through application of safe driving and material handling procedures.
Accountabilities:
WAREHOUSE
  • Unload, sort, pack, store, load donations ensuring integrity of donations are maintained
  • Sort donations for distribution based on established standards of quality and distinguishes between discarded and good quality merchandise according to policy
  • Build food hampers for the food bank and deliver them to the appropriate area of centre
  • Provide emergency food hampers to clients as directed by caseworker or supervisor
  • Direct work of volunteers assisting in the warehouse
  • Comply with all safety procedures and ensures work area and warehouse (inside and outside) is kept clean and tidy according to guidelines/policy
  • Operate electric Straddle Stacker as necessary
Pick up and Deliveries
  • Ensure safe and careful handling of all deliveries and pickups using an assigned Salvation Army (TSA) vehicle in a timely and secure manner
  • Load and unload goods at designated facilities
  • Demonstrate a pleasant manner with the public
Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance
  • Ensure the safety of TSA vehicles by performing pre trip inspections
  • Maintain TSA vehicle log and report any problems to supervisor
  • Responsible for the security and safe operation of the vehicle and other assigned equipment
  • Clean and sanitize supplies and equipment used
  • Maintain knowledge of legislative and organization policies such as health and safety regulations/policies, provincial and municipal highway traffic acts
Other related duties as assigned. This may include assisting with fundraising, special events taking place outside of normal working hours, and working in other areas of centre as needed.

Managerial/Technical Leadership Responsibility:
  • This position reports directly to the Family Services Manager
  • This position has not direct reports; however may provide direction to warehouse volunteers
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
  • Safe material handling and picking up/delivering donations
  • Maintain the warehouse
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • This is a fixed term position and is 40 hours per week
  • Working environment is typically in a warehouse environment
  • The work requires frequent amount of standing, walking, bending, repetitive lifting/sorting, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Flexibility in work schedule is required, as work hours may be adjusted based on program needs
  • The worker is required to travel 30% of the time in a Ford Transit Van
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
  • High School Diploma
  • Current First Aid/ CPR equivalent to St John’s Standard First Aid/ Level A or C CPR (can be obtained upon hire)
  • W.H.M.I.S.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
  • At least six months related experience including experience with warehouse processing or goods distribution
  • Valid Alberta Class “5” Driver’s License, personal vehicle and insurance is required; an original copy of a current Driver’s Abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion is required.

  • Valid Alberta Class “5” Driver’s License, personal vehicle and insurance is required; an original copy of a current Driver’s Abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion is required.
  • Provide an original copy of a Background Check screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
  • May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry
  • Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

This is a fixed term contract from October 6th, 2025 - Jan 9th, 2026 @ 40 hours per week.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $17.33 to $21.66 with a maximum of $25.99.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
