  • Guide. Support. Connect.
  • You help job seekers build clarity and readiness, turning opportunity into access and access into sustainable employment. You create learning environments where people feel supported, informed, and equipped to take their next step.
  • About the Role
  • The Career Practitioner (STEP) supports newcomers and equity-seeking job seekers as they prepare for and transition into the workforce. STEP focuses on short-term employment pathways, practical job-readiness supports, and workplace communication skills that build confidence and employability.
  • This role blends individualized coaching, group facilitation, assessment, and labour market navigation. STEP is a fast-paced, client-flow–driven program that requires strong organization, responsiveness, and collaboration. Working within the Employment & Language Pathways portfolio, the Practitioner contributes to a coordinated client experience and engages closely with colleagues, employers, and community partners to support clear and practical employment pathways.
  • Hybrid in this role refers to a combination of on-site service delivery and community-based work (e.g., employer visits, workshops, outreach, and client meetings). This is not a work-from-home position. Remote work occurs only occasionally, based on program needs.
  • About the STEP Program
  • STEP (Support through Training, Employment, and Pathways) provides targeted, short-term employment support for newcomers and equity-seeking job seekers who are ready to enter the labour market. The program emphasizes rapid job search, job-readiness skill building, and connection to immediate employment opportunities.
  • STEP also includes light, practical employment-focused language development to strengthen English-for-employment skills, workplace vocabulary, and confidence. The program integrates coaching, group learning, employer engagement, and coordinated referrals to create clear, supportive pathways into work, training, and longer-term career growth.
  • What You'll Do
  • Provide individualized career guidance that builds confidence and supports clients preparing for employment.
  • Support job search activities including resume development, interview preparation, networking, and labour market navigation.
  • Facilitate accessible workshops on job readiness, workplace communication, employer expectations, and English-for-employment topics.
  • Conduct structured assessments to identify client strengths, skills, and barriers, helping clients take informed next steps.
  • Maintain active relationships with employers to stay current on job openings and workplace requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with the Employment Placement Specialist to support coordinated employer engagement and placement pathways.
  • Track client progress and maintain accurate documentation aligned with program and funder requirements.
  • Participate in committees such as JHSC, Employee Engagement, or Policy Review, contributing to a healthy and connected workplace.
  • Actively learn and apply organizational policies, safety practices, and service standards to support consistent service delivery.
  • What It Takes
  • A steady, client-centred approach that builds trust and encourages forward movement.
  • Clear, adaptable communication that supports diverse learning needs, including ESL and employment language learners.
  • Strong facilitation skills rooted in adult-learning principles and inclusive practice.
  • Comfort engaging with employers and interpreting workplace requirements to prepare clients effectively.
  • Analytical skills to interpret assessments, identify barriers, and support practical career decisions.
  • Strong organization, accountability, and consistency in documentation and follow-through.
  • A collaborative mindset that values coordinated service, shared outcomes, and continuous learning.
  • Curiosity, initiative, and comfort working in a fast-paced, client-flow–driven program.
  • Comfort communicating in English in a professional environment; additional languages are an asset.
  • What You Bring
  • Post-secondary learning in human services, psychology, HR, adult education, business, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2–3 years in career development, employment services, or related client-support roles.
