  • About the Team
  • The Business Intelligence Team at Policy Reporter has two main focuses. The first focus revolves around creating high-impact dynamic data tables and visualizations that support drawing insights on the U.S. healthcare landscape for a diverse portfolio of clients. Leading pharmaceutical, medical device, and diagnostics companies use the dynamic data tables and visualizations to navigate complex challenges and strategically plan for the future. The second focus is transforming raw data into clear, impactful insights that support strategic decision-making across departments. Using tools such as AWS QuickSight, the team builds scalable and interactive dashboards that serve the needs of Commercial Operations, Product, and Operations teams.

  • Position Summary
  • The Business Intelligence Team Leader is a player-coach role, and their time will be split between providing leadership for the team and some project delivery. As the leader, the BI Team Lead will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day work, governing workflows and processes, tracking team performance, and in collaboration with the Director, Research and Business Intelligence, set the direction for the team.
  • The ideal candidate has previous leadership experience and has subject matter expertise related to BI platforms (AWS QuickSight preferred). The candidate is a strong representative and advocate. and is self-motivated to explore and innovate better ways to draw insights from data and is committed to improving data as a tool for decision-making purposes.
  • Role & Responsibilities

Lead the BI Team and serve as the main representative, including but not limited to

  • Support the priorities and strategic objectives of the organization
  • Foster collaborative and innovative team culture
  • Line manage members of the BI team, monitoring performance and developing individual capabilities.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to the team
  • Administrative tasks such as managing projects and day-to-day workloads, managing PTO, and writing performance reviews
  • Serve as professional representative and subject matter expert advocate of BI Team interests in cross-departmental meetings

Team Governance including but not limited to

  • Tracking projects and tasks against capacity
  • Setting the quality standards and delivery KPIs of the team
  • Track team and deliverable performance metrics and define key areas for improvement as needed
  • Improving workflows, processes, and associated documentation that support the team to work more effectively and efficiently
  • In collaboration with the Director, Research and Business Intelligence, define the next opportunities and pathways for the BI team to contribute to further company goals and successes

In accordance with being a player-coach role, the BI team lead will also be directly involved in delivering some dashboards and thus responsible for tasks including

  • Build and maintain templated dashboards in AWS QuickSight
  • Enhance existing dashboards for better clarity, speed, and functionality
  • Design data visualizations that effectively communicate trends and insights
  • Validate data sources and ensure accuracy and integrity in all reports
  • Monitor dashboard performance, ensuring quick load times and reliable functionality
  • Automate report delivery to reduce manual effort and support real-time insights
  • Gather reporting and dashboard requirements from Commercial Operations, Project Management, Product, and Operations teams
  • Support customization of dashboards based on specific client needs and data access levels
  • Communicate findings and trends to stakeholders in a clear, data-driven manner
  • Assist with data collection, integration, and transformation tasks
  • Stay current on new AWS QuickSight features and best practices in BI and data visualization
  • Skills & Qualifications
  • Must-Have Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, or related field, including experience building dashboards and reports for business or client use
  • 1+ year of experience leading or mentoring an analytics or BI team (“player-coach” or similar leadership capacity)
  • Strong proficiency with at least one major BI platform (AWS QuickSight preferred; Power BI or Tableau acceptable)
  • Hands-on experience designing, maintaining, and optimizing interactive dashboards that translate complex datasets into clear, actionable insights
  • Solid understanding of data querying (SQL), data validation, and performance optimization principles
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, track deliverables, and uphold quality standards across multiple projects
  • Strong communication skills: able to gather requirements from non-technical stakeholders and translate them into BI deliverables
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • Nice-to-Have Qualifications
  • Experience with AWS data stack (Athena, Glue, Redshift, data lakes, or similar)
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field
  • Prior experience managing performance reviews, workload planning, or team metrics
  • Familiarity with automated reporting or real-time analytics pipelines
  • Experience supporting pharmaceutical, medical device, or healthcare-related data projects
