INTRODUCTION

  • New Path Youth and Family Services is an accredited children’s mental health agency providing a range of compassionate, innovative and accessible services for children, youth and their families throughout Simcoe County. PURPOSE OF POSITION

  • The Brief Counsellor provides shorter term individual and family counselling to children, youth and their families, using a brief model of intervention.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

  • Assess the needs of children, youth and families, formulating treatment plans including goals and service strategies.
  • Meet with clients and/or their families to provide support & counselling, using evidence based/informed programs.
  • Assist client(s) in making referrals to community resources as needed.
  • Provide consultation to New Path Staff, other agency personnel or the community.
  • Function as a supportive member of the team.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Social Work (B.S.W)
  • Minimum two years' experience working with children, youth and their families in a children's mental health or related service
  • Experience/training in Single Session Counselling
  • Experience working with evidence based/informed programs

  • Recognizes, initiates and adapts to changing conditions and situations in the workplace.
  • Demonstrates awareness for the backgrounds, values, beliefs and traditions of staff, clients, families and communities we serve.
  • Continuously assesses and challenges assumptions, personal unconscious bias and commits to understanding diverse perspectives, experiences and their intersectionality.
  • Commits to ongoing training to build the knowledge, awareness and skills, that contribute to creating a culturally safe environment for staff, clients and families.
  • Competency and effective use of database and Microsoft Office systems.
  • Confident, articulate and professional when communicating verbally and in writing.
  • French language is an asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Working hours are 11am to 7pm, Monday through Thursday
  • Willingness to travel to other agency offices and community using personal vehicle. Must have valid driver's license with minimum G2.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
