About
ACOTO is the founding branch of the Architectural Conservancy Ontario (“ACO”) linked to a network of other branches and members throughout Ontario and the national heritage network. Since 1933 this volunteer-led charity has been involved in preserving Toronto’s architectural and environmental heritage by helping communities and owners preserve stories, buildings and structures of architectural merit and places of natural beauty or cultural interest. For example, ACOTO was actively involved in saving Union Station from demolition. The organization strategically uses education through its annual Symposium, publications, TO Built database and advocacy to celebrate and encourage the conservation and re-use of structures and landscapes of cultural, architectural, and historic significance, to benefit all Torontonians.
