Moms Against Racism Canada, a federally registered non-profit, was created in 2020 as a safer, brave space for Moms, and those in mothering roles, to root out racist biases and learn how to raise anti-racist children. We are inclusive to all mothering individuals whether by birthing, biological, adoption, foster, surrogate, non-binary, two-spirited, LGBTQQIA+, godmothers, grandmothers, aunts, primary caregivers, educators, and all others who feel the term “mothering” describes their roles. With compassion and bravery, we are committed to identifying and dismantling racism as we encounter it. Our mission is to educate people in mothering roles in anti-racism, cultural competence, and decolonization so we have the tools and support to dismantle racism within ourselves, our families, and our communities. Through mutual learning and gentle leadership we support our members to become active in dismantling systemic racism. We believe that individuals in mothering roles have the power to change the world through the relationships we build with “our” children. We have the power to shape the next generations. We have the power to end racism where it starts - in the home. There is no role in this world that has more influence over the future than a mothering role. Together we can choose to stop breathing hate and fear into our next generations and instead nurture within them acceptance and love. Together we can choose to instill values of social justice - access, inclusion, equity, diversity, participation, and human rights - into the hearts and minds of our future leaders. Together, in our children, we can end racism and build an equitable world for our descendants where everyone is valued.
